joshhill96: So with the announcement about the replacement of Stratos in the next week:
many have mixed views on what the announcement will entail. My guess is a Chinese channel but I dont want to assume that far. Your thoughts?

Hang on, so it will be live next week?

Probably not - it's an announcement...

As for TV9 (Channel 29) - it's already commenced broadcasting. Not exactly sure when it started but it's been about a couple of weeks now.

I thought that was only a testing broadcast and the go live in February?

Been getting it on my TV for a couple of weeks. Chinese channel with English subtitles. Seems to show a lot of documentaries.

Flicking the Freeview epg on, it states "TV9 is now on test mode, Official Launch Date 01/Feb/2012". Whether there's any change apart from actually having an epg from this date remains to be seen.

They probably just want to make sure that everything is in place before launch day and can do any tinkering before hand without interrupting viewers.

are these 'new' channels for DVB-S or T?

If DVB-S, what transponder are they going to be on?

The one to replace Stratos will be both on DVB-S and DVB-T because of the frequency

This can't be the replacement for Stratos as it uses a different frequency, doesn't it?

I won't ever be voting for the people who killed TVNZ7.

It and Maori TV are the only channels worth watching.

As for Sky....I don't watch sport and I don't give money to Rupert Murdoch.

TV 9 is going Freeview HD and is not replacing STRATOS, People knew TV 9 was launching from last year and it really is no surprise, sounds like you guys just found out about TV 9 thank god! I don't live in the HD Auckland area.

I think it does actually considering the fact that his company (News Corporation) holds a stake in Sky Television New Zealand. Anyway, off topic.

So TV9 is not going on satellite?  That sucks :(  I live 20km out of Whangarei and can't get the HD signal.
