Dunnersfella: That's all well and good - but the average install cost for that sort of thing is $50 - $60.
$149 is simply taking advantage of those who don't know any better.

I believe Noel Leemings price promise says you can claim any price that was on special within 7 days of it being advertised. The bond and bond $199 deal ended last tuesday, so if you take in an ad for it, you may still be able to get it for $199.

1. The purchase must take place within 7 days of the lower price having been advertised.

vexxxboy: ok i saw a sign in Noel Leemings saying, "why spend two hours setting up your Tivo when we will do it for you for only $149.00", now does it really take 2 hours to set it up and if it doesnt is it false advertising . i hate shops that try to take advantage of customers that have no clue

I had a bet with the parents when I was around setting theirs up about how long it would take me. I managed the hardware side of it in 14minutes. Their sound system is reasonably complicated but I just pulled their video out and slotted the TiVo in.

Could someone also give me an answer to my question from before? I'd like to know if it's a 'Nick being thick and having a setting wrong' or a 'I need to buy the network pack' issue.

Quick question: I want to stream my music from my Mac through my TiVo. I've set most of it up, but every time I go to connect to my laptop, it bounces back to the menu before hand. I assume this means I need to buy that home networking kit to make it work?

I am loving the Tivo though. It's recorded a couple of excellent programs that I forgot about/didn't know were on. Pretty happy with my purchase & at such a great price.

wasn't paying attention and missed this sale ... they must still have stock as it's still advertised by at 299 now. Will have to keep an eye out for the next sale

Usually, the ->| button on the Tivo remote will bring you to the end of a program, or if you are at the end, it will bring you to the beginning. If you are fast forwarding, the button will skip you to the next tick mark. This hack is all about repurposing that button to act as the 30-second skip.

Bring up any recorded program. Then, enter the following sequence on your remote:

Select Play Select 3 0 Select

You’ll know the combination worked when Tivo rings out three “bling” sounds. Your ->| button will now skip forward by 30 seconds.

Note that this hack is not permanent. If at any time your Tivo needs to be rebooted after becoming unplugged or as a result of a power failure the hack will go away and you will have to reapply it.

Just tried that on mine SW 11.3b4 no joy. Still skips to the end of the program..
Is there something I'm missing??

I'm not sure sorry at this stage. Just saw the above comment and thought I'd mention it just in case it did work.

I've purchased, but not setup one yet.
Will get around to it shortly.

I'm looking to use a harmony remote so will begin the planning to try and get an ad skip feature to work on that. It's annoying how harmony/logitech don't let you just type in the model name and search right from the start, you have to pick a category to begin with and then try and search down from there.

It's been softwared out due to the request of TVNZ (one of the tivo partners) before they were released in NZ

Just got off the phone with telecom, was enquiring as a telecom broadband customer if i bought a tivo unit from bond and bond (because it's 200 bucks cheaper than what telcom is offering) would there be any significant disadvantage with the bond and bond unit.

The upshot is if you buy from anyone other than telecom your downloads via caspa (apologies if that is the wrong spelling) would deplete your monthly download allowance, whereas buying from telecom would give you unlimited content downloads without depleting your broadband allowance. I have no idea if caspa is any good or competively priced but on the surface - it looks like it could save u trips to the dvd store on a wet evening - anyone care to comment on the quality or usefulness of the content download service?

As an aside: i put the word on telecom to give me the unit gratis to keep my telecom loyalty - will keep you posted as to their reply but it wasnt the usual straight out no

I'm not sure on the specifics, but I was under the impression Caspa content was unmetered on Telecom. That may/should hold true regardless of where you purchased the unit from.

My opinion on Caspa is that it isn't great as far as movies go. Zune Video Marketplace on XBOX 360 is better. The only thing I have watched so far on Caspa is a free series called Last Chance Learners. That was quite interesting. If they had more mainstream movies then Caspa would be great.

It's my understanding that the unit you buy from Telecom is the same as the unit you purchase from Bond & Bond. If you have a Telecom broadband connection then it is unmetered - regardless of where you have purchased your unit from.

As I'm not a Telecom Broadband customer, I didn't read too hard into that part of it so I might be wrong.

been a non-telecom broadband user does not affect the useablity of Tivo, all it means any caspa content downloded is counted towards you data cap, I've had a Tivo for over a year now and *never* bothered with caspa, the content is slim and outdated.

This is 100% wrong. The TiVo you buy from Telecom and the TiVo you buy from anywhere else are the same. CASPA downloads are unmetered if you have Telecom broadband, regardless of where you bought your TiVo from.

Either you didn't understand or the Telecom person didn't know how to explain.

Yes it's worth ramming this home as it's still a common misconception.

You do need a broadband connection to use Tivo, (definitely to set it up the first time).

However once it's up and running you only need the broadband connection for the 14 day EPG data.

This is not likely to be a very large file at all, and from memory you don't need to do this very often, (once every 14 days at a guess?

)

You do not use any data to view and record freeview TV channels.

Using the extra Caspa feature will use some broadband data. You do not need to be with Telecom to use this feature, you can be with any internet provider.

However, Telecom lets you have this data for free, whereas you will have to pay for this with any other ISP.

Back on the phone again to telecom talked to a different guy and yep the earlier information was complete crap, buy it from trademe, bond and bond or the guy down the pub you will get unmetered downloads provided you are hooked up to telecom broadband.
