Hey guys I got my Magic TV on Thursday, and I freaking love it. Just being able to record in HD is primo! This thread was the deciding factor for the purchase :D The only gripe (if you could call it that...) is that when you are recording a program [and watching it] or playing back a recorded program, a little rec/play logo pops up in the left top corner. Can this be removed?

Yeah it's in one of the settings menus that you can switch it off.
Not off the top of my head, no. It is in the manual though. Also you may want to make sure that you have the new (3.09 I think) firmware. I think that there's something in there about this too from that update.
hi safboy, thanks for the support! And make sure to update to firmware 3.09NZ. About the popup icons, please check Magic TV main menu Settings->Info Format and scroll down. You should find the setting needed.! :)
Got it thanks Magictv! I updated to the new firmware shortly after my first post. I was hoping that would fix it, but I now know it's an optional function.
Hi magictv. Based on the feedback here you are off to a good start with the 3600 and seem quite responsive to queries and quick with firmware upgrades. I would buy a non-freeview approved unit from you. The ability to skip ads easily, to watch HD content through component cables and to use your EPG, are all things that might be possible without Freeview certification. Once you have established yourself as a leading Freeview approved product, would you consider offering an unapproved version of the 3600? Thanks Gavin
I second that. I'd probably buy one if it wasn't for the "freeview approved" limitations.
Just a couple of questions. Firstly, tonight I wanted to record TV3 (Christmas in the Park), and Prime (Man vs Wild) while I watch a DVD with the Mrs. But, I have since noticed that it did not record the original screening of Christmas in the Park, but it got the one on TV3 Plus 1... Why is that? Secondly, When I am recording TV3/Plus 1 & Prime, I can't watch any TVNZ channels? Can anyone shed some light please? Cheers
magictv will record tv3+1 if there was a previous end time later than the start of the tv3 program and you were recording on another mux as well ie tv one and tv3 at the same time . second question . there are two tuners in the magictv and there are three muxs tvnz, media works, kordia . the twin tuners only allow muliple choice on the same mux
so you can use any three channels (record two watch a third) between the three
muxes but cannot do any thing with the third mux.
Do you mean I can record on 2 of the muxes at one time, but when recording, can only watch what is on those muxes, because the 2 tuners are engaged in those 2 tuners? Where the hell are the triple tuner units then!

Does the Magic box switch from the channel you are watching to the one you have set to start recording from time to time? My JC Matthew box does this occassionally, and I am wondering if it to would be caused by the muxes, although I was able to switch back to the original programme being watched so this probably isn't the case. It really anoys my wife when she is watching Shortland Street and the channel suddenly switches to TV3 when the recorder kicks in 2 minutes prior to 7:30pm, and right at the point Shortland Street is spinning up to its climatic end (yeah right, I don't share the same enthusiasm for the programme myself, but I do suffer the frustration of the wife growling about the box). The same problem is in the Homecast box, which I had for a short while.
PS I really wanted the Magic TV box, but there were none in the shops, it had to be ordered in. I needed one in a hurry which is why I ended up with the JC Matthew box. Hopefully Magic TV is getting their act together and keeping the shops stocked by now.
