Wellygary, I have an 880 and I havn't tried what you suggest, but I see no reason for it to strip out the data you suggest as the RF output should just loop through from the antenna with a buffer amp.

There is a full user manual on the net which I downloaded before I purchased mine. DMR-BW880 was the search I made.

The manual shows scart i/o but the nz model has the usual composite, component, sVideo connections.

Wizzid, would you be able to post a photograph of the rear of the BW880GZK so people can see what connections it has?

Its price has dropped to $1,130.

However the i/o are identical to my 880, for which I paid $1189 about 6 weeks back which I thought at the time was a great price!

Can anyone tell me if the dmr-xw380 unit records the timeshift/timeslip info *all* the time, or only once you hit "pause" ??

I know people with an 850, and it doesn't allow for "rewind live tv" as you have to hit pause, then play for a bit, then rewind if you want.

I would like to be able to be watching live tv, miss something, and simply rewind back to it.

It behaves like the 850, you can only view from the place where you paused, unlike MySky which records constantly so you can rewind live TV prior to the time you paused.

I know the MagicTV does what you want. Not sure if the 880 does, but the 850 definitely does not.

bw880 does not have this feature. you must pause live tv to use timeslip. timeslip can also be used in recorded content

A friend advised me of the DV convert function. This can downscale to your choice (SP ~ 2GB/hour). The resulting file is playable on most devices (unlike the HE-AAC original). You can download the content (if you have DLNA turned on) in two steps:

In Window Media Player, right click and select properties, this will display the source URL, the URL you need is up to the question mark.

Using freeware wget (command line) you can download the content from the URL, e.g.

C:\Program Files (x86)\GnuWin32\bin>wget -P z:/TV/ http://192.168.0.100:60001/AV-0-268435456-268436719-1332540120_BDY
C:\Program Files (x86)\GnuWin32\bin>rename z:\TV\AV-0-268435456-268436719-133254

to provide a more portable format (from MPeg2/AC3 to h.264/AAC) I've added handbrake to the mix, the download and convert example is now:

wget -P c:\TV/ http://192.168.0.100:60001/AV-0-268435456-268436719-1332540120_BDY
rename c:\TV\AV-0-268435456-268436719-1332540120_BDY One_News.mpg
HandBrakeCLI -i c:\TV\One_News.mpg -o c:\TV\One_News.mp4 --preset=Normal

edit : added the format from the PVR and the preset parameter for HandBrakeCLI to get h.264 output

Looks like the XW390 is the end of the XW line of DVD recorders as there was no updated model for 2013 and it's no longer sold in Australia
The BW line of Blu-ray recorders is still current if you want to record to optical disc

We have 2 XW390s now (and a MagicTV)

I've kept my 390 as a tuner and input switching device downstairs and upgraded to the DMR-BWT835. All the good features (DLNA and DR convert) with BD, remote record and iOS / Android live play (transcoded). This replaced the DMR-XW390 and PS3.
