I have tried with shine and now with Fairgo and it has not recorded the second showing. So working well. Running firmware v1.4c

HTPC Intel Pentium G3258 cpu, Gigabyte H97n-wifi motherboard, , 8GB DDR3 ram, onboard graphics. Hauppuage HVR 5500 tuner, Silverstone LC16M case, Windows 10 pro 64 bit using Nextpvr and Kodi

In short, don't buy one of these, we have had nothing but trouble.
It says it has a dual tuner but when we tried to record two programmes at once and watch another it threw
it's toys out of the cot big time. Even when we tried to record a programme late at night it was'nt succesfull
It seems you can only record a programme if you are actually watching it! what is the point in that!
Also it has very illogical navigation around it's system, we use to have mysky and unless we can find a suitable replacement we shall be returning to mysky.
I'm surprised this dishtv s7090 pvr is aloud to be sold it's a piece of s..t !

This is not my experience at all, and with the latest update 1.4c and the latest manual from the website the unit can do everything it says. It can record two programmes while watching a third, or playing back a recorded programme. The EPG works fine for recording.

I agree. The unit does have a few idiosyncratic ways but overall it works really well.

I've probably been one of the loudest complainers...but like stated since the latest firmware I have had no real issues (some slight UI jitters and freezes which are sorted by a reset)....it's been getting to this firmware update which has been painful !!!

Suggest checking which firmware you have and if you have installed it correctly (i.e the supplied loop cable on back which would limit dual channel recording)

ok well, my bad, the little white cable that comes with it to loop so you can dual tune
I installed incorrectly, so ignore everything I said, should of checked that first !

There is still a problem with this box using a CAM (Dragon in my case) and a Sky card does not work reliably unless you are watching the sky channel live, you get lots of freezing and skipping. Seems to function fine for Freeview though. I have been trying to get DishTV to fix the sky issues for over 12 months!

It has two tuners so you can record two channels and watch a recorded programme but NOT record two channels and watch another as stated above by Bobp.

The Freeview EPG is good (or at least as good as most) but the ESG is not much use for recording from Sky!

I don't think you can really expect DishTV to put too much effort into this because by using any sort of CAM, they are breaching Sky's T&Cs and if too many people starting using their equipment to watch Sky, it would be like painting a big target on DishTV's back!

This is where it's good to have a receiver like Vu+ which is fully supported by an enthusiast community using Open-Source Software. There is no company as such for lawyers to go after, so it probably isn't worth their while.

DishTV have been pretty good (if taking 12 months can be considered good) in that they have made incremental inprovements to the Sky issues with each firmware update but things seem to have stalled since the April update (1.4c). I think their main problem is that their software development is offshore and they can't test the Sky issue there, they have to record the stream in NZ and send it off.

OK, that puts a different light on your situation. If it was me, I would just use an inverter and a Vu+, but no doubt it will consume more battery power. It would also be possible to use a different power supply inside the Vu+ which could be run from DC. IIRC, the voltages inside are 18V (for LNB) and 5V for the mainboard. But probably too much messing around, so an inverter would be easier. You might need to get an extra solar panel or two to cover the increased load I guess.

Regarding use of the Sky card in a 3rd party STB, that's how I look at it too -- Sky are still getting their money. But if it started happening on a large scale, it could pose a problem and Sky would look to shut it down. Actually, they may already be working on that, as has happened across the ditch with Foxtel. So I would suggest enjoying your Sky viewing on your DishTV while it lasts!

My response would be to cancel my sub, save the $50 per month to put towards increased broadband data, and switch entirely to downloading via the net, but so long as Sky are prepared to leave the status quo in place, I will continue with my sub.

Yeah, inverter not an option and neither are solar panels, installation is on a 12 metre launch so I use a 200 hp diesel motor to spin an alternator (150 amp) to generate and then store energy in a couple of AGM batteries (510AH), wasting some of that energy by converting it to heat using an inverter so the internal power supply can drop the voltage again is a no brainer and just means I have to run the motor longer to replace it, also not asthetically pleasing if I am anchored in a quiet bay for a few days. I run only 12 volt on the boat, no 240 volt appliances allowed!

I pretty much just watch the live sport off Sky so it really is the only option with cell data rates as high as they are!

It baffles me both why they don't simply embrace a 12 volt solution themselves and also why they care whose STB I am using so long as my card is legal and my sub is up to date ...... but then I gave up using logic to work out what Sky are up to a long time ago!

Yes, there are a couple of 12 volt single tuner STBs that will do Sky and Freeview and even record to an external device, but the S7090PVR is the only one I can find that will allow me to record multiple Freeview channels (vital so you don't miss either the bite time while fishing of an evening or the news or whatever

) on an internal disk and nearly do the same for Sky.

Still hoping that DishTV finally overcome what appear to me to be software/memory/buffering/capacity issues with this box.

Which reminds me they are due for their bi-weekly email reminder!

I agree with bobp I can record 2 channels while watching a third either live or recorded. It certainly isn't without the occasional glich agravated by these hour later channels 7 and 8 but I wouldn't want to be without my 7090

Hi there,

I am glad I found this forum.

I also have this box s7090 and the problems that I have found so far are:
1 - when recording channel 3 or 4 on series it also mark channel 3 plus and 4 plus.
2 - buffering, every once in a while when watching a recorded program there are some glitches in the image and/or sound. Solution 1: turn it off and on on the remote control. Solution 2: turn off and on on the wall.

I would like to ask here if anyone knows about any future improvement on the internet capability of the box. At the moment having the weather channel and e-mail is really not enough. I think that most people like me would like to have a browser there so we can watch online content... youtube etc...
