I just checked and was amazed by the directional range. It works in my living room at about 5m distance and 90 degrees left or right.

And yes, I have mine set to only switch devices off when I press the OFF button.

"Devices" turn on when their "activity" is selected but do not turn off when another "activity" is selected - that is the way I set it up. There are other choices.

Just looking at the harmony remotes online, there are a few. A harmony model 650 is $65.

which one do you have or recommend ?

has functions for "scenes" so you press the TV button and it will turn on the tv, dish tv box and the home theatre, and select the input on the tv that the dish tv is on. change scene and it will turn on and off devices as needed.

took a little bit to setup, but means we only need one remote now.

i wouldnt be without it.

 ahh, buggar and I just bought the dish tv gen 3 remote last week as well :(

If you can stretch to it the harmony hub based remotes are just awesome. They have IR blasters on the hub but the remote is RF so they don't rely on you pointing at the devices while it runs the activity.

In other TiVo themed threads you have been one of the biggest supporters of MythTV and given some great advice in the area.  I'm curious as to why you've also bought a T2200?

I had asked if this feature could be added, but didn't get a reply. Now we've lost Josh I guess it’s something that will go way down the list. It’s such an obvious feature. I record the 6o'cclock news each night so I can time-shift view it. When I start to run out of disk I have to delete 60 or so 1hour episodes. Being able to decide to keep sy 3 or so would be sensible. SageTV provided the function and it saved stacks of disk space Pete

 

How does the T2200 prevent itself from recording duplicates of the same episode?  A guy at Panasonic told me their unit is based on what is already saved on disk, if the episode isn't already on the disk it'll get recorded.

I read somewhere that you need Windows to set the Harmony 650 up. Is this so? And has anyone managed to get it to work using Linux?
