For anyone who cares (and I'm not sure I do anymore) the latest Catalyst drivers did not solve my ATI green-screen problem.

Am still able to survive wirth CoreAVC drivers though. Just a bit fed up with the fact that this motherboard was supposed to be the bees-knees.

I'm still unsure though because spec derived conjectures can only tell so much.
I guess the only way to find out if it'll definately work is to give it a go and get it definately working.
Having said that, do online stores do refunds for users incompatability issues (Which I'm fearing will be my outcome) or only faulty products? I might just get a dvb-t card and give 'er a run around to see if the 8800gtx will peform with freeview|HD.

I actually have this working (780g) without much drama to get there. I do have a few issues though but I haven't had the time to iron them out. Issue is in DVB Viewer. Changing the channel sumtimes results in no video, but sound still works. have to change channel and come back and its fine. Anyone else experienced this?
I tried Media Portal 1.0 but the CPU usage was quite high and the video could become garbled.

PC installed with latest ati 8.6, though was working 8.5 aswell. ffdshow, Arcsoft total media theatre (trial but codecs still works after). DVB Viewer (latest?). PIP works also.
Running it on Aver Hybrid Duo TV Card
780g 3200HD
AMD BE 2350 (2.1ghz)

Has anyone seen a review of the mobos with onboard 8200 or 8300 graphics which includes video? i'd bet interested if it could decode h264.

I read here on the forums that the ATI HD3870 plays up when changing freeview channels . Is this problem fixed? If not shouldnt you make note of this in the opening topic. Because right now it says "ATI HD3870 (confirmed working)" which would be misleading.

Ok, I have hardware accelleration on an ATI Radeon X1250.

I have an Asus m2a-vm hdmi motherboard with inbuilt Radeon graphics. I have 256 MB of dedicated RAM for it. I am using an AMD X2 4200+ processor.

When watching tv3 with 1080i content I have approximately 25% CPU usage, whic is about the same as when I was using a Nvidia 9600GT, so I am pretty sure I have hardware acceleration.

This motherboard has HDMI support via a pcie card, and when HDMI is enabled in the bios I get about 80% CPU usage. But when it is disabled I get 25%.

I am running vista ultimate, PowerDVD 8 deluxe and DVBviewer with my Asus P7131 dual hybrid tuner.

Catalyst 8.7 is out.

Remember - most ATi cards/integrated video chipsets can do hardware decoding; it's just getting them to do it consistently when you are constantly changing from one stream to another (eg 720p to 1080i - TVNZ to TV3).

MediaPortal have also just released RC2, so it looks like I've got a bit of upgrading to do...

I have a workmate with an ATI HD3850 and and HVR2200 and he's had all the same problems as everyone else with hardware decoding, so he's been using CoreAVC and PowerDVD in sofware mode waiting for a fix from ATI. He was ready to install the new Catalyst 8.7 last night, but before he did he thought he'd better try switching back to PowerDVD 8 in hardware mode just to check everything was still not working. To his surprise he found that hardware decoding was working perfectly with a CPU usage of 7%. Since he'd last tried hardware decoding he'd switched from Mediaportal RC1 to RC2 and apparently he had installed an update for PowerDVD 8. So what we're thinking is that maybe (just maybe) there was never a problem with the ATI drivers and that the problems were either caused by Mediaportal or PowerDVD. He then when on to install Catalyst 8.7 and hardware decoding was still working fine.

Anyone else with an ATI card care to check/confirm this?

Well I started by upgrading to Catalyst 8.7. BSOD on every startup. Now restoring PC to previous version (Catalyst 8.5). Will then try upgrading MP to RC2.

I've just given the onboard ATI solution another go, using a Gigabyte MA78GM motherboard with the 780g chipset connected through HDMI to a 1080P rear projection TV. Using Media Portal RC2, Power DVD 8 trial, Vista 32bit, 8.7 catalyst drivers, the 720p channels look mint with CPU ranging from about 5% to 12% with a dual core Athlon 4600. However tv3 not so good, it stutters and breaks up, but CPU still lowish peaking at about 25%. Plus the Media Portal GUI flickers like crazy when TV is running (all channels). Might try patching Power DVD as previous posters have suggested. Is this possible with the trial?

I also noticed a very slight stuttering at 1080p fullscreen on the 720p channels, but running in a window looked fine. It was also fine on a smaller monitor, so maybe the onboard video struggles a bit with fullscreen 1080 resolutions?
