The Aus DTT channels are not allocated the same as NZ. They use a 7MHz spacing whereas here the channel uses a 8MHz spacing therefore it makes sense that the 4000 might not work here and won't be freeview certified.

Does anyone have any problems trying to record NZ Got Talent on MagicTV 3700?

On my MagicTV 3700 - for some odd reason it doesn't record NZ Got Talent even though I have set MagicTV to record the series. It accepts the recording request from the TV Guide, and the only other recording at this time is America's Got Talent on Prime TV which is fine as MagicTV has two tuners and it doesn't prompt me with any recording conflicts either. I can also see the show listed in the TV Guide with the (S) icon showing beside it indicating that it's set for series recording. However, when NZ Got Talent begins MagicTV fails to record the show, however, it records America's Got Talent on Prime TV no problem. Typical! During this time when I switch to TV1 and push the Record button on the remote control to manually force it to record the show it says "Show will be recorded at a later time" but this is the only time the show is put to air apart from being played again one hour later on channel 7 (TVNZ One Plus 1) - but MagicTV doesn't record the show on that channel either.

Giving it the benefit of the doubt, the next day I go to check to see if it's in the recorded programmes list, and it's not there.

Does anyone know why it might be doing this?

I have a 3600, so I can't really tell you, but if it's any help it repeats the following Sunday at 3.00 pm on TV2.

At least this is HD, unlike TVNZ7 which is only SD.

Thanks PimpMyMagic - not sure if 3600 gives the same result as I'm getting either.

But in any case it's not ideal having to wait a whole week to have the previous week's episode recorded only literally a few hours before the next current episode is put to air.

There's so many odd things to do with how and when MagicTV decides to record things.

it does that because of a conflict , the only way is to reduce the time overlap before and after a show to zero and disable live pause perhaps too .

Nigel, are you recording any other channels at all on Sunday night?

If you are I'd suggest you try setting your pre record time to 1 min globally, as this will cover most situations and set the post record time to just 3mins for NZ's Got Talent. There's 5 min between this and the scheduled Prime recording so you should only require one tuner then if the second tuner is doing something which is creating the conflict.

See if that fixes your problem. I wouldn't recommend cutting the post time to zero as NZ's Got Talent seems to usually overrun by a couple of minutes.

As you say - it must be a conflict thing, but magic doesn't advise me of a conflict when I set the programme to series recording from the TV Guide. (which it usually does on other occasions with some other recordings). And besides, even if there is a recording conflict, I've always understood that magic records whatever remaining portion of the intended programme as soon as one of the tuners are freed up and becomes available from completing a previous recording. Or perhaps that's why it's saying "will record at a later time"? ...so that it ensures I end up with the full recording of NZGT? If so, then that's clever, but the only problem is that the replay is scheduled for the folllowing Sunday and by then the episode is a little out-of-date.

The only other programmes being recorded over this time are on PrimeTV. So there's only one other channel being recorded, so I can't see how there can be a recording conflict, but I'll go and double-check it again when I get home tonight.

It does this by recording the overlap period as a separate file, which it then adds to the tail and top of the respective programmes during playback. Other recordings on Prime shouldn't be a problem.
It could always be a bug in your 3700 firmware I guess.

Yep, totally understand the overlap compensation and the way Magic handles it, but I'm fairly certain the only other channel being recorded at the time of NZGT (TV1) is Prime TV. I've not had this happen before as I've always been able to understand and work around the conflicts - but not this one!

My firmware is updated to the latest official one from the DishTV website.

The odd thing is it doesn't record the show from TVNZ7 either so unless it is referring to the replay on TV2 I can't see where else it must be getting its 'to be recorded at a later time' schedule from.

Please check the To-Do List and see if there is a date/time that is scheduled to be recorded for the series.

Latest firmware is 5.10 as posted earlier on this page.

Ok, I got a response from the MagicTV NZ distributors (DishTV) themselves on this issue and it appears to be a transmission issue on Freeview itself:

Regarding why MagicTV is not recording NZ Got Talent on TV1 Sunday night, even when there are no other recording conflicts...

"Yes this appears to be a transmission issue there has been multiple occurrences on different brand receivers doing the same thing all we can do is let freeview know and hopefully they will sort it out soon."

Looks like the only option is to watch NZGT live rather than rely on the recording to watch it later!?!

New BETA firmware 6.0 beta1 for testing only, may be buggy:

Major feature:
- Support EXPERIMENTAL Network sharing

In Magic TV Gadgets -> Network HDD:
- Use Network HDD will let you play recorded programmes from other MTV3700 running network server on the network. This will slow down the access of Recorded Programmes List due to network access.
- Network HDD Server will run a server to provide recorded programmes to other MTV3700 that uses Network HDD.
- This feature is primarily intended for LAN connection. Although WiFi should work to a certain extenet, it is not likely to be fast enough for some programmes with higher bitrate.

Those interested in finding out whether a PC can access the files inside MTV3700 may try to google "Magic TV NFS mount" and use google translate. Keep in mind that since HD recordings are encrypted by MTV3700, they cannot be played back on PC.

As an experimental beta firmware, this firmware may be removed at any time without notice.
