old3eyes: I wonder why they would supply a set of component cables then rather than an HDMI one? Maybe the Ozzy one works HD over component and when you set NZ during the setup it's disabled..

For the same reason some brands of printers don't come with a USB cable, cost. It also gives the retailer an opportunity to make a good profit on high margin HDMI cables. But you can buy HDMI cable for $10 or less around the net

Does anyone know if I took my tivo to Oz, would it still work over there? I presume it might, because you can choose OZ or NZ on the intro screen, but wondering if the tuners/systems are the same to allow it to work.

I would say taking it to oz would work, whether you get full services I dont know. I know someone brought 1 from Aus to here and it worked, again never asked if they got full services here but they did get the channels I know. Pity I cant contact them now to ask them

Appears Tivo is locked to Freeview channels only, tried tuning in our 10 digital mainland channels and got nothing but 10 grey screens ??????? Unless I'm missing something i wouldn't touch a Tivo

The mainland channels May be there. I found with TV9 it didnt seem too be there but when I checked under settings and channels (I think thats it. not by tivo at moment), I found it was there but the check box was unticked so wouldnt show up in channle list. I ticked it and preto it shows up but no epg of course for it.

Main thing I dont like with tivo is I cant connect be external hard drive to tivo and play the movies on it

From my observations it appears that the TiVo is a very good general/cheap consumer oriented device but for anything more you're probably better off with another, more, higher-end device.

Australia uses a different DVB-T, it won't work.

Other than an HTPC what is a power users device?

Oh, well. You want a HTPC then, because none of the Freeview|HD approved players will give you all this.

In this case, remember this is a DVR, very different class of product.

Yes I am aware Australia uses different frequencies and also 8mhz against our 7mhz. But on setup you choose Australia or New Zealand. And the person did say it worked here. But still havent and wont be able to test it myself.

You can achieve the same thing as plugging the hard disk in by plugging the hard disk into your computer and then using the TIVO to play off your hard drive.

yes I am aware that you can but it defeats the purpose of using one unit. It means you have to have your computer on at the same time
