I seems to do that with non FV channels. Shows the channel ID but no programming..  Same here in Auckland..

They show as a grey screen on my Tivo too. I did email Mainland about it and they didn't really know what a Tivo was and said it should show up on any digital UHF tuner.
I also contacted Tivo who said they were in 'talks' with all providers etc. etc.

I doubt the Mainland channels ever will appear on Tivo which is a shame really as I'd love to be able to record the local news and the odd decent doco (like Coast) on there. Sadly we'll probably never watch any of their channels now.

That is a bit of a worry if a TV company doesn't know what one of the most popular PVRs in the world are...

Depends on where you are.
They are only available in the Nelson area as far as I can tell.
No sign of them in my HVR2200 tuner here in Auckland from Waiatarua.
Most regional Channels are region locked and not available outside their intended viewing area.
For instance the Rotorua channels show up in my tuning scan but no picture and sound from them.

Unlike the Rotorua channels , Mainland is NOT part of freeview and their MHEG5 so that is definitely NOT the issue here....

That is a shame,
By all providers , Tivo probably meant all Freeview prividers
