Broadcast frequencies are changing in the Waikato and Bay of Plenty

Freeview viewers may need to retune their TV or set-top box when the broadcast frequencies change in the Waikato and Bay of Plenty regions on Tuesday 8 May.

The changes only affect Freeview terrestrial viewers who receive signals from the Hamilton City, Te Aroha and Kopukairoa transmitters. They will not affect Sky subscribers, analogue TV viewers or Freeview satellite TV viewers.

The Ministry of Economic Development’s Radio Spectrum Policy and Planning Manager Len Starling said: “Affected viewers will see a message pop up on their TV screens this week, prompting them to retune when the frequencies change. Retuning can be done simply using the remote control.”

“Those who watch Freeview TV and share an aerial with others, such as in an apartment building or retirement village, should contact their property manager for advice on whether their installation requires any modification.”

Managers of apartments, hotels or motels are advised to talk to an installer prior to the frequencies being changed to see if any technical adjustments are needed.

The channel frequencies are changing to ensure that New Zealand’s radio spectrum is freed up for other uses and emerging technologies.

Helpful advice on retuning is also available on the Ministry website, www.retune.co.nz. Alternatively, people can call the Radio Spectrum Management free helpline on 0508 336 633 if they have any problems retuning their TV or set-top box.

Yes, the wee card turned up in my mail box this weekend. Haven't had the chance to read it completely yet - busy weekend.
It nearly got biffed with the rest of the pile of junkmail it arrived with.

The card doesn't really say much, basically it just tells you do to a retune if it stops working on the 8th. Everything "should" retune itself though :)

562, 578 and 594 MHz if you're on Te Aroha, otherwise 570, 586 and 602.

Ha ha ha 00:50 8th May 2012 and all I've got is the blue screen of death. Gosh, that takes me back.

Scan compete....  No Channel Available!

Dude that's like ....whatever, how am I going to watch my 20 cooking shows now?

Ah it's late, switching HDMI port back to my Android box. Laughing

I'm sure TV will do what TV does.

does anyone know the new frequencies are. the old were  698,  714  and  642

I have rescanned on my strong box but all I get now are channels 1.2, U and tvnz7

So I will have to manually put in the frequencies.   When I originally bought this box I had to manually put the frequencies for tv3  so now they have all changed will have to do the same to get the other channels

All channels working here in Whakatane. As I've mentioned in another thread I'm behind some trees and have historically had intermittent picture corruption, but so far it's been perfect (signal quality is the best I've ever seen it).

Approx 10.00am auto re-tune TV and all good. No problems for me in Hamilton.

The first channel that comes up......it's a cooking show.

Normality has been restored. *sigh*
