ADKM: Tried this for the first time and was told hi-speed copy wasn't possible as the format wasn't compatible.
The format used (DR ??) is the native recording mode. Anyone else managed a hi-speed copy ?
That would be correct. Freeview records to the HDD in DR by default and won't copy to DVD at high speed. Because they are recorded in DR they have to transcode to SD when copying to DVD. I have the BW880 and Freeview recordings will only copy to Blu Ray disc at high speed. They copy to DVD only in real time. This is the same for the SD and the HD channels. I would have thought that recordings from SD channels would transfer at High Speed but they won't. Recordings via Line input (such as Sky) are OK as they are only recorded as SD by default. One of the reasons I bought the BluRay recorder rather than the XW-380.
Many thanks for that explanation. All makes sense... also found you can alter the recording mode to non HD and then do hiSpeed copying. But seems a shame to compromise the HDD quality just to save a bit of time copying to disk. Pity you can't transfer to a flash drive and get the file into a computer. I suppose you can buy a PC card with HDMI inputs?
Or, you could copy the files over the network using DLNA software on your computer... I've done it with the DMR-BWT700, so it may well be okay with the DMR-XW380.
That sounds mighty interesting as I've been thinking of getting a blu ray burner for the PC. How hard is it to set up? Is the file transferred as such, or streamed and recorded again on the PC ? Also can you move something from the PC to the BWT700 like something you'd recorded off-air?
