I recently bought an ultraplus X-9200 HD with twin satellite tuners and firmware 2.10.11). I love it but it has occasionally been doing something odd with the channels. For example, I'll press channel 2 on the remote and the box will change to channel 2 with the on screen display saying channel 2 and the LCD on the front of the box showing TV2. The problem is that channel 2 won't be the channel that came up. Instead I'll have CUE or one of the other channels showing. Turning the device on and off reverts the channels to normal. We have also missed the recording of a programme a couple of times because instead of recording say channel 1 it recorded parliament tv instead (even though the recording showed the name of the channel 1 programme it should have recorded). Is this a known issue and is there a way to fix this? (Let me know if you need any other info)? Thanks in advance Rick

Is the unit under warranty? If so, talk to your supplier as it would certainly seem to be faulty. I can't imagine anything under user control that could cause, or rectify this.

Good box to own. I have had one for nearly a year now.

I suggest you delete and reload all channels. Your example of TV2 showing Cue TV , well they are on different transponders but use the same video pids. Your channel list might be corrupted.

I would also contact your supplier as the current firmware is V2.10.29 an even newer firmware is due for release in the next week.

Thanks for the responses. I got in touch with the supplier and he sent me an updated version of the firmware, which didn't help. I then returned the box to him and he replaced it with a new one. Plugged it in 2 days ago, and just got a text from my wife to say that one the timer recordings from this morning has recorded the wrong channel, despite giving the channel and programme information of the channel it was supposed to be recording!!!
Doesn't look like it was a faulty box???!!
To record a programme I go to the EPG, scroll to the programme and press play twice to set it to record. I then go to the timer settings and change the one off recording option to daily or weekly, depending on the programme. Can't think that anything I am doing is stuffing it up. I have changed the settings to add 5 minutes before and after the programme. I do know that there was 2 programmes one after each other recorded on channel 2 this morning and the channel 4 programme that was supposed to record was at the same time as the second channel 2 programme. Don't know if that would make a difference?
My other thought is could it be the LNB on the satellite dish causing the problem? Don't even know if tha is possible?

Which version of firmware did the dealer supply? Check your system info menu.

As versions before 2.10.52 have a bug with the series record function
Latest version is 2.10.52 but 2.10.57 is due soon.

In the timer setting check these options.

Type Recording /PLAY
Tuner AUTO /1 /2

I assume you have the loopthrough cable connecting tuner 1 to tuner 2?

I also assume you meant pressing the OK button twice as clicking the play button does nothing.

The firmware is 2.10.11. I talked to the supplier 1 week ago and he gave me 2.10.29. Does the series record in the latest version work?

I am using the OK button :) - was typing at work.

Also, I am using loop through, tuner is set to auto and type is set to Recording.

95% of the time recordings are fine. It is only occasionally I get the issue. Weird thing is a weekly recording I have set up will record fine one week then record the wrong channel the following week??!

Could it be the LNB playing up?

No.
My understanding is that the LNB sends everything from every transponder it can see on the polarity selected.  It is for the tuner to select from this flood of data the stream that corresponds to the particular transponder and service that is required.  The 'flood' is then sent to the second tuner for it to make another selection.  There is no way the LNB could take the data for one stream and make it appear as if it were from a different one.

Nothing to do with the LNB

versions 2.10.29 - 2.10.49 had a series record BUG

get the 2.10.52 or later and you should be ok.

Good to know it can't be the LNB.

I only have version 2.10.11 of the firmware, which doesn't have the series record feature. To record a series I use the EPG to record a one off and then go to the timer event and change it from one-off to weekly record. Could the recording the wrong stream (but with the info from the stream I have selected from the EPG) be due to the way I am changing it from one-off to weekly? Do other people do this without a problem?

The last couple of times I have had the problem it has been set to record TV4 but has recorded channel ONE instead. At the same time, the other tuner was successfully recording channel 2. Could this have caused the confusion (though it is intermittent and I can record multiple channels fine most of the time)?

I would love to try a new version of the firmware, but it doesn't seem to be updated on the website of the supplier I bought it from. Does anyone have a recent version (eg 2.10.52 or later) for the ultraplus I could try, or do I just need to wait for it to appear on his website?

Finally, under timer settings should I have the TYPE set to PLAY or RECORD (and what does the PLAY option actually do)?

Thanks again for any help.

Perhaps the key here is that the recording about to start, the second one, is on a different transponder from the one already running. I can see a blunder being made in the firmware if it is based on a single tuner implementation in that a global transponder selection is being made and both tuners are using it.

You could perhaps experiment, if, that is, you feel that it is the consumer's function to do the manufacturer's debugging for them when they've already got your money.

I have effectively been told I need to debug it myself, because no-one else is having this problem. Unless I can tell them the cause of the problem then they can't fix it. When I complained and made noises about a refund I was told that it is likely to be a firmware bug, not a hardware problem, and you can't get a refund on a computer because windows keeps crashing, so I couldn't get a refund because of a firmware glitch. Eventually managed to get a replacement on, but this has the same intermittent recording issue.

I know it sounds like it is an ID10T error with me doing something dumb, but I am reasonably tech savvy and can't think of what it might be (especially when the same timer recording works sometimes and not others)!!!

Yeah it sounds like the receiver isn't changing the channel, Channel4 is on the other transponder.
It records it as the pids must be the same for TV one.

Hmmm - I could have sworn I'd made a post in there debunking the idea that a manufacturer was in any way absolved from responsibility for firmware bugs that rendered a device unsuitable for its intended purpose, and that recourse to the Consumer Guarantees Act was available where products do not behave as described or as could be reasonably expected for the price paid. Seems to have gone. Strange.

PLease confirm this setting ! Menu, Dish Setting for Optus D1 "Tuner Connection" should be on loopthrough.

As part of any problem solving step you should try to replicate the problem.

set the box as you did before with a clash of recording on the 2 different transponders.

e.g set the box to record channel 1 8.30p.m (program1) and channel 1 10.25 pm (program after it? same night) Channel 4 8.30pm?

I'm happy to test it out on mine

Checked and it is definately set to loop through.

I set a recording for channel 4 this morning. The kids were watching TV2 while it was recording 4. My wife came and changed the channel to 4 (hit 4 on the remote) but channel 1 appeared. There was no way we could get 4 to show (despite channel 1 displaying all the TV 4 details)! We had to turn it off on the back of the box to get channel 4 to show.

I'll do some more troubleshooting (when I get a chance) and try and get the problem to replicate each time. I'll write down all the settings and exactly what I have done and see if anyone else can get it to happen.
