Hi,

I'm having no luck with my free view. We just moved house and there was a satellite so we just bought a decoder from the warehouse. We just can not find the freeview channels at all. All we can get is Hope tv, GOD tv and some other random channels. I already read a lot of the topic's and tried a few things.

Optus D1 shows up, but also a couple of other satellites. We chose Optus D1 and turned the 22 Hz thing off. We also checked the sticker on the satellite and changed the settings to 10750, cause we have the oval version. The weird thing is that when it's done scanning it said it is on 156E and not 160E, we can also get 152E.
I think the problem could be there, but my husband says he also noticed that he only finds channels on Vertical and not Horizontal and thinks that can be the problem. Could it be a solution to change the disc of the satellite a bit or even 90 deg.??

What are we missing?????

Harriette

It sounds like the dish is pointed at Optus D2 (152E). not D1 (160E).

Standing behind the dish, it needs to be moved a couple of degrees to the right.

The satellites that are listed in the setup are just ones that the the receiver has settings for - it doesn't mean you are actually picking them up. You can only pick up a satellite that your dish is actually aimed at.

With one of those oval LNBs, you should see Optus D1 (160E) with 22kHz off, and Optus C1/D3 (156E) with 22kHz on.

Edit: I suspect the dish has been moved so this it is pointing at Optus C1/D3 (156E), and if you turn on 22kHz, it's picking up D2 (152E) which has some religious channels.

If you stick your address in to Dishpointer and select the different satellites (152E/156E/160E) it will give you an idea of how much the dish needs to move (not very much!) You may need to also tweak the elevation (up and down) adjustment of the dish - a few mm can make a big difference, so see if your receiver has some sort of signal strength meter to help with the alignment.

While you're still pointing at Optus D2, send up a prayer for something decent to be broadcast FTA from Optus D1.

Moving the dish didn't work and so did the praying, we also noticed that for the scan the end frequency is very low (12750) and can't be changed to 22500 or something, is that because it is still aiming at the wrong satellite?

The transonics are fully automatic, you shouldn't need to change any settings in it at all, go back to factory default in the menu and start from scratch, if you don't get anything , then the problem lies elsewhere

What specific channel?

Is it encrypted or watchable?

Only coloured bars on D1 , nothing to get excited about

Not getting excited; trying to establish which satellite the dish is currently aimed at...

We still have nothing we can watch, and yes every time we adjusted the satellite we put it back to default settings. But when we scan the Nine Network shows up and we read on the internet that was 160E, but how is it possible we still don't have the right satellite then??

Nine don't currently broadcast any channels that are available free to air in NZ, so what you are picking up is likely to be a temporary feed. Theses feeds will pop up from time to time (sometimes for minutes, sometimes for a few days) on several satellites that are in the same approximate location in the sky, not just Optus D1.

so although we are probably close, it is likely we are still not on 160E?
