how can i edit them the ones from sdtv i payed for a copy of VideoReDo TVSuite V4 and it works fine for hdtv channels

but when i edit sd channels they pixalate for like 1 second at the start or at each part when i cut the ads out they said i could only fix this by converting the whole video and i do not want to do this

i don't mind if there is an app that can cut each parts out without pixalteing as i use handbrake to convert the video and will use mkvmerge to join the parts to make one video

That's the nature of MPEG2 video.

Does the software have an option to preserve GOPs (Groups of Pictures)? as that will make the cuts where there is a key frame.

The developer seems to be very active with it, and releases at least a beta update most weeks, sometimes every few days.

There has probably been quite a bit of stuff added to it since you last used it, so it might be worth another go.

I use VideoReDo and have no problems editing HD or SD.
Are you using Ad Detective?
I only edit manually.
Might pay to do a reinstall of the software?
Incidentally I've found that all my Freeview recordings appear to be in an HD stream even though they may be SD.
For instance my Panasonic recorder won't burn to DVD without converting in real time even though the content is SD. Will only record to Blu Ray in High Speed. Both HD and SD are recorded in DR (Digital Recording) mode.
With VideoReDo I just do the ad cuts manually and it saves a file in about 30 secs.
The PC recorded files are .ts files from HVR2200 tuner.

If you're recording TV1, TV2 or TV3 there is no such thing as "SD" or "HD" recordings, they are fulltime 24/7 1080i HD channels.

But even the 720x576 are in digital format. Only the resolution is different. My recordings from Prime (720x576) are no different (except they are half the size per hour)  to the 1920x1080 (.ts files) and edit exactly the same. I can't understand how VideoReDo can be causing the pixellation. Any pixellation woud have to be in the recorded file being edited and not as a result of editing.
What type of files are you recordings? I have had no problems editing various file formats except .avi which VideoReDo won't handle (yet).

If I recall correctly, VR can introduce pixellation with h.264 because of the nature of h.264. h.264 GOPs are not like MPEG2 - they are not closed for references so even cutting on I frames does not guarantee that the references in the following frames will all be maintained. If frames removed by editing are referenced then artifacts may result. The OP seems to be aware of this as it has been explained many times on the VR forums. It is a general problem that any video editor that does not completely re-encode will suffer from. The degree of the problem is affected by the stream encoding parameters, the choice of cut locations, and the smartness of the editor...
