Looking at a cheap(ish) PVR for Freeview HD - $300 gets me either the TiVo or the DishTV t1050pvr

Any opinions on which of these is the better buy is welcomed

cant say about the dish unit as I have a satellite unit.  I do have the tivo for hd and at first was sceptical about it However after using it for a while I bought a 2nd unit at the cheap price.  Well worth it.  BUT you have to have broadband internet for it.
For the sake of it I tried to set the 2nd unit up without being connected to broadband and it would not allow me until I either selected ethernet or wifi.  There was no skip option, it had to be one or the other.

So if you have broadband go for Tivo.
If you dont have broadband go for the dishtv.

HTPC Intel Pentium G3258 cpu, Gigabyte H97n-wifi motherboard, , 8GB DDR3 ram, onboard  graphics. Hauppuage HVR 5500 tuner,  Silverstone LC16M case, Windows 10 pro 64 bit using Nextpvr and Kodi

I have the DishTV t0120 which is setup to record for the kids on their TV. I think the main difference between the 1050 and the 1020 is the external hardrive. Maybe the 1050 has an extra tuner?

Anyway. There is no comparison. Tivo is the way to go. Would not bother with the DishTV.

TiVo...no question. I would hurry up though as I understand the current model is due to be replaced with a more expensive one.

Ok - this is becoming pretty clear - TiVo it is.

Seems like there are a few availabe in my area - will pick one up tomorrow (shame there isn't the $199 special on anymore).
