Got a 5-6 yr old Freeview receiver - Aetna 0808. Had to reset it and now I'm having trouble tuning it. Is the satellite Optus D1? D I need to select anything else? What's LNB? I've got a cryptic note in my papers that says "10750. Was 11300". I have no idea what this means.

The LNB is the little box on the end of the satellite dish arm. Basically the LNB takes a high frequency signal (say 12456MHz) and reduces it by the LNB offset.

10750 and 11300 are the LNB offset.

A 10750MHz LNB would reduce it to 12456 - 10750 = 1706MHz.
A 11300MHz LNB would reduce it to 12456 - 11300 = 1156MHz.

Sky used to use 11300MHz LNB's normally, but now use 10750MHz LNB's.

You need to make sure you set the offset correctly. It's probably 10750.

Yes, you should be using Optus D1.

Depending on how old your receiver is, you may need to set the transponder frequencies manually. That's unlikely though, it should detect them in a scan.

Thanks, MichaelT - that was exactly what I needed to know. Actually, the tuner IS an antique - I had to tune the transponder manually to get 10750.

The settings are now:(Standard Sky dish in Arrowtown, Otago)
Optus D1
LNB Type - I selected 'Standard 1' (There's a Standard 2 as well as other types)
LNB Local - changed manually to 10750
The following were already set at:
22K - OFF
DiSEqC - 1#
LNB Power - ON
Position Set - OFF
Set FTA/CAS - FTA
Search Type - All
TP Setup - 12733/H/2250

Below the last line is a 'Quality' box. The value bar fluctuates between 49% and 54%.
I assume the settings are OK - a scan found 23 TV and 13 Radio channels, though not all the TV channels showed a picture, so I deleted them.

So, all seems to be OK, except I'm durned if I can alter the aspect ratio. Oh, I can toggle the figures through 4:3 and 16:9 but the appearance remains at 4:3 regardless. It must be affected by the Bravia TV's settings.
I think I need another receiver, but I don't want to spring for a new one. What's a good used one to look out for on TradeMe or wherever?

When I said the transponder frequencies, I didn't mean the LNB frequencies. You always need to set that manually (unless it's already correct).

I meant the 12733/H/2250 line. 12733MHz isn't a Freeview transponder, but it probably sends a signal that tells your receiver what transponder to connect to. You may or may not have received all the Freeview channels.

If you haven't, try changing 12733 to 12456 and 12483.

I assume 2250 is actually 22500?

Can't really help you with the aspect ratio, that's specific to your setup.

No, Michael - I haven't tried changing the 12733/H/2250 line (2250 is definitely what's showing - not 22500)

Cycling/toggling that line, I can see 12456/H/2250 and 12483/H/2250 (as well as others, of course)

I assume you mean: Try each of those two settings and see if I can get more channels? As I said, the current setting found 23 TV channels and 13 radio.
