Just received:

TVNZ’s online news has undergone a makeover to align more closely with its on-air counterpart and now has its own dedicated site, onenews.co.nz.

The new site will be home to all of TVNZ’s news content, while the tvnz.co.nz homepage will continue to have a strong news presence in the short term to navigate users through to onenews.co.nz.

TVNZ Head of News and Current Affairs Ross Dagan says, “The revamp will make it easier for New Zealanders to access their news anywhere, anytime and to find what they want more quickly.  It will also give our first-rate news video more prominence.”

onenews.co.nz launches at 11pm on Tuesday, June 12th, in time for exclusive streaming of Wimbledon from June 25th, and extensive 2012 London Olympics coverage in July and August.

The new site will have 24-hour Games coverage, including video highlights, live text updates, extended interviews from the ONE News team in London and commentary and analysis from experts. This content will be available across the new website, and also on the mobile site, news app on iPhone, and across social media platforms.

For the record, this seems to be a DNS change too, because I am still being redirected to tvnz.co.nz/news...

Another PR balls up by a media company that doesn't really seem to get the Internet way of doing things,

I mean who in the right mind whacks out a press release (PR) for a website that does not launch for another 12 hours???

I cannot see why they don't flip the switch to coincide with the PR so people can pop over and go "cool" or "great" or otherwise express their view of the site,

Saying that you must wait 12 hours is simply going to cause people to just forget about it,

Right, like the piss poor current affairs reporting that TVNZ produces can really be called news.

But what if it were your kitten stuck up a tree for 10 minutes in Waikikamukau?

That's what I was thinking. They can invest all they want in delivery technology, but if the editorial quality is complete and utter rubbish then there's no point.

Think they wanted to keep the 1's in there. Hence 11pm rather than 23:00.
And surely they're setting this up (in time to be used) as a virtual channel for all things Olympic.....

some pretty heavy handed unnecessary geoblocking going on with the new site.

Fixed now. Late last night it was like the CSS was broken.

Bit of a worry when Mr News can't even keep his facts consistent between title and content :-)

So has the site launched? I get redirected to http://tvnz.co.nz/news, or is that it?
If so, hardly worth a press release...?
