Who's still using a 6000T? I'm reinstating it because we've finally got a USB HDD for TV, and the Panasonic V20 has the most pathetic recording system I've ever encountered. I have one question though: What is the 'standby' (on/off) setting in the 6000t's reservation menu?

Retired my Vantage a few months back after getting a Tivo.
The Vantage is a great recorder, never had a problem with it.

the standby mode in the reservations menu (when set to on) will turn the vantage off after recording something.
(I always turned it off)

I've had to go back to mine for the last few months. It freezes at least once per night. I can't wait to be rid of it.

Freezing watching TV, or does the recording process freeze?

Just watching TV.
I've had to do without my Panasonic plasma (which is flawless) during renovations, so I know its not a reception issue,

Check your aerial hasn't moved. the vantage tuner needs a good strong signal.
Your Panasonic has probably got a more sensitive turner in it & doesn't need as strong of a signal to work.

Its not that. When signal anomalies occur, the signal and quality readings go from around 85 (S) and 99 (Q) to below 60 and 80. If it then dips below that threshold, it begins to cutout and struggle. However, the freezes don't occur when this happens. They are more random. Often audio will continue while the frame remains frozen. Only way to recover is to change channel and back again.
This is on the latest firmware btw. I actually think the previous firmware may have been better. I might roll back and see...

I'm on the latest firmware too, and the Vantage is just as stable as the Panasonic V20 plasma's tuner.

The only real annoyance with the Vantage is that they never finished the EPG. It still only sees two programs ahead. I've put the plasma on the Vantage's aerial loop so that I can still use it for it's 8 day EPG (also lets me watch channels I cant get to when the Vantage is occupied with recording), but the damned Panasonic EPG is so buggy I'm disinclined to use it anyway. It's loading times are often unreasonably long, and it's constantly kicking me out of the EPG whilst I'm reading it, and then I can't open it again for half a minute. All-in-all, the DVB-T capabilities built into that TV are miserable. A slow, buggy EPG, and no recording functions other than press-to-record. Even with it's castrated EPG, the Vantage is like a breath of fresh air.

It seems like the honeymoon with this thing is over. Last night whilst watching a recorded show, someone tried to fast forward and that action caused the Vantage to lose the HDD. The HDD LED was just flashing constantly and upon pressing the media button we're confronted by the "Media is not connected" error. Then the thing wouldn't shut down with the HDD connected.

The HDD was still accessible via PC, but the vantage wouldn't have anything to do with it. Starting it with the HDD connected, Instead of the normal 'Media Inserted' -> 30seconds HDD activity -> 'Media Connected' we got 'Media Inserted' -> indefinite HDD activity. And still no shut down with drive attached.

I've reformatted the drive again via PC, and now it seems to be back to normal. For how long is anyone's guess.
