Just flicking through channels on the TiVO this morning and I found 3 new ones from 353-355 - two of them seem to be the Chinese channel "33" ( I remember receiving that in the early days of Freeview) and 355 was another instance of TV One +1...is this just some sort of engineering test or something or is it related to the new religious channel that supposed to start soon?

Channel 33 is ment to a Auckland regional only program, when it's received from a transmitter outside of the Auckland region, the transmitter also transmits an out of region bit that tivo and other approved freeview receivers see and make the channel unavaliable.

I have the same thing happening here in the Waikato, Tivo can see CH33, but blocks it from the guide, but the tuner  in my computer quite happily tunes it in no problems.

Would it be a fair assumption that CTV should be moving to Freeview soon? It's less than a year until analogue gets cut off down there.

I don't know if it is a fair assumption. Some regional TV operators have been told there is a channel available on their local Freeview-HD transmitter (if they find the money to pay), and some have been told they're out of luck and there's no room for them at all.

Wow - so some regional channels will just cease to exist?

Considering what CTV have been through over the last 18 months I really hope that they get a fair go.

I thought that they had the right to apply for a digital channel as they currently hold an analog channel? Could bypass the whole freeview scam and just do what the chinese channels on the skytower are doing.

Most likely can get on the digtal channel ok, but getting on the freeview platform is yet another step
