I am in Nelson,i hear asiasat 5 has quite a low elevation,what are the chances of locking onto this bird in nelson, i hear they have a few olympics channels on soon.

Sorry but you'll need at least a 4 metre dish and like you said, a view to the horizon. Even then, you'd be hoping it's a decent signal on the bird in order to see it here!

Turn to Internet sources. Much cheaper than hoping services will be available via satellite and without the hardware costs etc...

If you are after Olympic feeds then I would check Chinasat 6a and 6b. You should manage with a 2.4 mtr dish in Nelson, and you could try for Asiasat 5, 4degrees above the horizon in Nelson. Dishpointer.com is worth a look for pointing info, and lyngsat.com for satellite services info.

Are you sure about that? The beam maps say a 2m dish would be enough.
