Hi Team,

I had a search but couldn't find anything relevant. So I hope its not a repeat.

We bought a Samsung Series 5 5000 LED TV with built-in Freeview|HD.

We live in an area that doesn't get Freeview|HD.

I plugged our old Freeview decoder into the composite input plugs but it says it can't display the resolution and I can't get any menus or anything from the decoder.

Any ideas?

Any comments appreciated.

Probably need more info.
Presumably your old Freeview decoder is a satellte box?
Was it working OK on your old TV?
Does it have component and/or HDMI output?
If yes to all the above then use HDMI or Component to connect to the TV. It sounds like the box has the output set to a higher resolution than the TV can handle on composite although I'm surprised you get nothing at all. If it doesn't have HDMI out then component would be much better and more likely to work than composite.
Is there a resolution setting for composite in the TV menu?

Not sure about this one, it has a video plug and two audio plugs coming out of the back of the box.
I can't find a resolution setting and there isn't any mention of it in the manual.

If it only has the one video output jack from the Freeview decoder, then it is Composite Output. Plug it into an AV input on the TV, not component input.

If you can't laugh at yourself then you probably shouldn't laugh at others.

I'm plugging it into a hole that says CVBS so I think thats stands for composite video something something....

A quick look at the manual shows that Composite video in is 480i only so I suspect the output from your satellite box is probably a higher resolution which the TV can't process.
Try connecting the box to the old TV if you still have it and check in the menu for resolution setting for composite.
You could also try the composite out from a VCR or DVD and see what happens. That would show if you are using the correct socket or if the TV is faulty.
If all else fails I'd be looking at getting a new satellite decoder with component and HDMI out. Would give a much better picture.

Sounds like the 480i is the problem, is it weird that it can't take higher input?

So we dragged an older freeview decoder out of the garage that had a different plug in the back and that works fine so that'll have to do.

The dish tv website seems to be dead.
If the box had an HDMI output I would have suggested (as B1GGLZ said) to use that.
Guess we will never know...
