To be honest I'm just trying my luck here, but hopefully someone can help me out.

I have a Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-3000 and sometime last month I accidentally threw out my old WinTV CD. This wouldn't be a problem except for the fact that I have just rebuilt my PC and need the disk.

I downloaded the v7 one but it won't install without seeing a valid CD. I tried burning the download to a CD but that still didn't work. One email to their online help highlighted that I could only install it with an original disk, and if I didn't have one I could buy one online. Off I went to the store via the link they sent me and after entering in my details it came up that there was a problem with my card.

Long story short, because of that transaction trying to buy the CD the bank think my card has been compromised so they have put a block on it. I now have to get my credit card cancelled and wait three days for a replacement. :(

All I wanted was to get my capture card up and running. Didn't think it would be this hard.

So...... Is there anyone in the central Wellington area able to lend/copy me an original WinTV CD?

I'll have a look I may have one. TBH though I've never used the CD. Are you actually tying to install the WinTV software?

Have you looked at any of the other TV applications out there? IMHO there is very little reason to use Win TV as pretty much everything else out there is vastly superior in one way or another.

What's that other one that's really similar concept (view live tv and simple time based recordings?) DVB Viewer I think....

I have only used the supplied sofware WinTV and CyberLink PowerCinema. PowerCinema is overly bulky and not that stable, and but WinTV was a very small app that worked brilliantly. I only use it for streamed video sent from the lounge. (My cheap Multi-room).

If anyone can suggest any other similarly small but functional apps, then feel free. I am definitely open to suggestions.

Try DVBViewer.

Ive downloaded DVB Viewer for a quick look but it appears to only let you get the demo version that works for 60 minutes before closing. I also couldn't find an obvious place to tell it to display the video coming into off s-video. Im assuming it is designed to take a raw feed from Satellite or Terrestrial not an already decoded video feed.

Does anyone know of a simple easy to use app that will let me view this streamed video? I have always been so reliant on WinTV that I haven't really had to look for anything else for quite a few years now. Or alternatively if anyone happens to have WinTV that I can possibly/maybe borrow. :) Either way is great, I just want to get TV in my study again.

I've got this Hauppauge 3000 card, I may still have the CD in the attic. If it is found, travel is then an issue because I live north of Upper Hutt. You may want to try other means first.

Have you tried VLC Player? It works fine with live TV on my 2200 card. Haven't tried analogue capture though as I haven't got anything to plug into the analogue capture port. Took a while to figure out how to get it to tune digital TV too.
Also you need to have the correct WinTV v7Disc too.
I got the V7 disc from Hauppage because the supplied disc only worked with Windows Media Centre and I had non WMC version of XP. Consequently it wouldn't let me install the software. Software upgrades only work if I use the newer V7 disc and won't work if I use the older V7 disc that came with the tuner.
If your video source has a Network connection then why not use your network and WMC for streaming? Works fine for me from a Panasonic Blu Ray recorder. Much better than through a tuner card analogue input.

I have just tried VLC Player. It looked very promising but after playing around with the "Open Capture" menus I can't get it to show anything off the s-video in. I have tried ticking device properties and then manually selecting all the available channels but still nothing.

Yeah. I've had a play with VLC this morning and although I can get Digital TV OK and Analogue with bad interlacing and no sound, I haven't found a way yet to select video input. I would have thought it would be possible though.

I think so but then I'm biased as I dont like WMC even though it works great for streaming from my Panasonic Recorder via the LAN.

damn it, why do I have to be at work instead of at home trying this out!

To recap, have you managed to get the video signal using co-ax type input but not thru the S-video/composite video. This being due to not being able to select the video input?

If you get really stuck you can borrow my WinTV CD. I am in Wellington at Rydges Hotel next Thursday night. Not sure when I am next there. I am generally through there for the night once every couple of weeks so you could borrow it for a week or so.
