Hi guys, all the channels on the Kordia mux (Prime, Maori, Choice, etc) have recently become pixellated, but all channels on the TVNZ one are fine. This happened in the last few weeks and everything was fine before that. I'm watching Freeview DVB-T on an HTPC using 7MC. It's not constant, more like every 5 or 10 seconds it goes blocky and jumpy.

I was thinking perhaps the aerial was moved slightly during bad weather but in that case why would the other mux still be fine? It definitely looks like a signal issue though. Is there a way to check signal strength on 7MC?

We are having a similar problem except the TVNZ Freeview channels are pixellated and the TV3 channels are all fine. We are watching Freeview on a Sony LCD TV with built in Freeview receiver. Sony have told us to do a factory reset on the TV. We live in Seatoun, Wellington. Prior to the frequency changes, all Freeview channels were working perfectly fine.

I'm in Auckland, getting signal from Waiatarua. For me, Channels 1, 2, 3, 4, U are fine but Prime, Maori, Choice, Tackside and the CTV9 are pixellated....

Anyone hazard a guess?

There is no reason to assume that your aerial will perform the same across all 3 muxes, given they transmit on different frequencies. It's quite common to find you're not receiving one as well as the others etc.

What would you suggest I do? do you know of a way to check signal strength with 7MC? Might I need to fiddle with the aerial?

Contact an aerial installer. Way easier than having to simply guess what the field strengths for each mux are.

I'd do the basics at least, it won't cost you anything, just time.

ie isolate anything else you have on the line, ideally heading towards testing with a single RG6 coax run from the UHF aerial only down to your tuner device. Make sure the terminations at either end are good, definitely at the aerial end as it's outside, and especially if it's an older saddle/clamp type connection at the aerial end.

Clean up the connection, strip back some new coax and lightly sand the aerial connection etc if it is the saddle/clamp style. Make sure it's aligned properly too and isn't physically damaged.

Try all that, and if still not sorted, then seek further help, and maybe pay for it...

This seems to have suddenly 95% resolved itself. Still getting a couple of pixellation issues but much more infrequent or noticable..... Haven't tried fiddling with anything yet lol

Fingers crossed it stays that way!

It won't. Simply shifting the antenna may completely resolve the problem but with the aid of a site survey with a field strength meter you can't predict the best location.
