Hi guys/gals,
I am currently running 7mc using a Nova 500 T dual DVB-T tuner, getting the guide through epg collector.

I want to get Shine, but that seems a bit of a waste of money as I'd have to get a satalite dish and a DVB-S card.  What other channels can I get using a satalite dish that would make it more worth while (not just freeview)?
What dish would I need (I'm not talking unlimited budget here - small enough to mount on the roof, not something taking up several sqm of my section :)?
Does 7MC handle them?
Will the epg collector (v4) get the guide for them?
What satalite card do you recommend?
Why's the sky blue?
Why's the grass green?
Why do girls got to the bathroom at the same time?

I think that covers it...

Presumably if you are interested in "Shine", then you like all that religious stuff!
Shine is on the Optus D1 satellite along with all the other Freeview stuff, but if it's religious programming that you want, then you may prefer to point your satellite dish a bit further to the left and pick up the multitude of religious channels on Optus D2; http://www.lyngsat.com/Optus-D2.html

You should be able to get a suitable satellite dish off TradeMe for around $50, but someone else will have to advise you regarding the DVB-S card.

You can get other religious and foreign language channels with a couple of English "news" channels from Optus D2 as mentioned by silverlake.

What dish would I need (I'm not talking unlimited budget here - small enough to mount on the roof, not something taking up several sqm of my section :)?

The other channels are on a different satellite to standard Freeview. I think a standard Sky dish (65cm) may be slightly too small to reliably pick up Optus D1 (Freeview) and Optus D2 (other) from one dish. An 85 or 90cm dish will definitely suffice. Such a dish can be roof mounted.

Does 7MC handle them?

Yes, as would any other PC software worth its salt.

Will the epg collector (v4) get the guide for them?

No. There is no in-band guide available for any of the channels on Optus D2. I'm not aware of any scrapers either.

What satalite card do you recommend?

Almost any tuner would do for your requirements. TBS, TeVii, Hauppauge... take your pick.

You may also want to know about Firstlight - apparently starting up on Freeview HD in the near future.

A 60cm dish is fine to pickup programming from Optus D2. However, if you want to access both Optus D1 and Optus D2 using just one dish, then you will need a bigger dish.
