Did anyone manage to record all of the closing ceremony?  It was cut off early here.. is there a reason/way to prevent this?  I know you can extend the time manually but weren't home to do that.

The EPG showed it ending at 11:05. It didn't. It actually didn't finish until some time between 11:30 and 12:00.

My wife recorded it on a DishTV T-1050 and got it all easily. we have it to record 5 min extra all the time but that wasn't needed this time

I recorded it on my TiVo and added another 2 hours to the record time just in case. Have been caught like this before

I add an extra 30 minutes to any live event of this type as a minimum.

Thankfully I did get the end, but I know quite a few people didn't.

Those who missed it were at the mercy of the EPG. On the Panasonic 380 you can't extend the time on a scheduled event by very much, and not at all for just one event...  nor alter the finishing time until the recording has started. which of course is hard if you're not home. You also can't programme a start time and duration like on the older DVDrs (and VCRs). This is a real issue now that recordings so often fail to start.  I pity everyone when there's digital only!

But if it's the same EPG for all, why did Cloudys Dish unit succeed ?

Normally the tivo will automatically extend live events, or it will give you a warning as to whether you want to extend it, as it was a live event. However it doesn't appear that it was broadcast as a live event in the EPG guide. As a result mine got cut off early too.The opening ceremony however was fine. Perhaps an error in the EPG provided by prime?

Anyone know if it is going to be rebroadcasted or available ondemand?

Actually turns out it may not have. The wife stopped viewing and deleted it before it finished, she got bored with it. So don't know for sure that it got it all, I just assumed it had as I hadn't heard her complain.

On another slight EPG item I'm finding Choice need to do some sorting with their info. Programs are repeated and they all record if one episode is selected and sometimes fail to stop recording. Came in today to find Britain's Lost Routes was still recording 3 hours after the program had finished. I am only getting this with ChoiceTV, all other channels are fine.

You don't have to use the EPG for setting record times. You can still set the start and end times manually just like you used to on VCRs. At least I can on my BW880 and the 380 should be no different.  That way you can be sure of getting what you want and not have to rely on the Broadcaster's times via their EPG.

You should be able to on all PVRs, but the tivo for example should auto extend live events if that setting is enabled, eliminating the need to do that. It however depends if the right information has been transmitted by the EPG, which it doesn't appear to have been with the CC.

Bigglz, that is astonishing!  We've had the thing for a year and never knew that. Not totally our fault as Panasonic told me the EPG was the only way to record. We even put up a new aerial to improve the start trigger from the EPG.  Helped, but still we'd miss things about one time one five.  Drove us batty and we always cursed it for not having a 'normal' timer record.

Now it's finally worth the money!   Amazing....  of course If I'd RTFMd properly.... Foot in Mouth
The News now set up that way. The Date shown in the 'Space' column.... limiting it to a month. Auto increments or you renew the Timer every month?

Thanks a million, wish I could shout you a beer!

Popular demand meaning complaints about their EPG :D

ChoiceTV's timekeeping is horrible. You'll need a 10 minute extension for their programming.

At least in this case the Olympics closing ceremony was a live event - coverage of that which over-runs the scheduled time is understandable. In contrast programmes which have been recorded long before their broadcast date which over-run their scheduled time are unforgiveable - and that happens far too frequently.
