Last week I lost the Australia Network signal from Intelsat 5.

I know it is moving to Intelsat 18 between August and September, but there were two possible cut off dates 31/08 and 30/09 that I got from the Australia Network website and was hoping it was the latter (after the AFL grand final).

I asked a question on their website about the actual Intelsat 5 cut off date but got a totally useless reply telling me that they couldn't do anything to assist people receiving unlicensed signals in NZ!!!...

Complicating things was the fact that I had some strong winds in the week I lost the signal which may have moved my dish, but I have been unable to get signal back.

Also, I am not getting the BBC World channel any more.

So, is anyone still getting Australia Network on Intelsat 5?

Has anyone been able to get it off Intelsat 18?  (I have been looking at the Lyngsat site and while AN has appeared on Intelsat 19, no sign of it yet on Intelsat 18).

Thanks.

Brendan

Thank you, thank you, thank you...

You motivated me to keep at it and I managed to get it back again.  When it blew over, it must have twisted the the lnb and now I just persisted with the trial and error stuff and got it back!  Cut off must be 30/09...

Thanks again.  Smile

No one knows when officially IS5 is done, Australia Network dont even know themselves when the move will be. The AFL Grand Final will be on Sky , if you do loose Australia Network prior to then.

And if you don't want to pay Mr Murdoch - it'll be on SC7 on Optus C1 (Aurora).

I too have lost BBC World and Ausralia Network off Intelsat 5. I get the feeling from this thread that Intelsat 5 is going to shut down - is this the case?

Apsattv news..

28/09/12

The much enjoyed BBC World feed on Intelsat 5 has left. It will be sadly missed on sub 1 meter Cband setups in New Zealand and Australia.

BBC has departed from IS5 as at Sept 30 ABC to follow.
has anyone managed to get IS19/18 on a 90 cm dish yet. I note that at least one of the installers has removed all the sales b lurbs from his website so guess he cannot come up with a workable solution to access ABC/BBC so I would be interested if anyone has managed to access the new satellites either using dielectric slugs or better yet with a new feedhorn

From what i understand , reading certain artitcals that it is possible to get Australia Network off IS19 (180 Degrees). Until proper testing has been done , the certian website will not advertise the fact that it is 100% possible.

That was my understanding as well but IS18/19 have been transmitting most of September so it should not take much effort to ascertain whether it is a goer or not.
I also think that a new horn is a better way to go than the dielectric slug and would like some info on this angle

Is it just me or is IS5 now officially done?

I also noticed no signal this evening, but on the Lyngsat Intelsat 5 page, Australia Network is now on 2 transponders; the old one 4160 H and now 4100 H.  I haven't tried tuning to that transponder, so I don't know whether there is anything actually there or not...

Still no sign of Australia Network on Intelsat 18 on the Lyngsat site.

The unlicensed comment is actually quite funny since the signal isn't encrypted.
Watched it a lot when we were in Thailand.

I am also regretting the loss of Australian Broadcasting TV.

Can anyone on this forum advise approx when the information was put out about Intelsat 5 being
decommissioned?

Reason I ask is that I spent quite a bundle with a retailer buying a package to receive freeview
plus BBC/Australia network only a few weeks ago, and I suspect that the people in the business
would have known some time ago about Intelsat 5's fate.

So, I'm feeling a bit grumpy.

Cheers,

John S

John,

And well you might be. I knew in late July/early August, just after I first got my setup going. It was on the Australia Network site that they were shutting down Intelsat 5 and Intelsat 8 in August and September of this year.

Plus there were threads here, not sure what dates, mentioning it.

We were lucky that we were able to get it till last weekend.

On a more positive note, has anyone had a go at getting Intelsat 18 or 19 yet?

Brendan
