Woooooooaaaaahhhhh. Hold on there!

Probably not just a Freeview forum thing. The old fair go ad awards was/is on and they had a segment on shouty commercials and their volume compared with programmes.

Righto: your best and worst channels for ad break volume.... Bring it on.

I grab at the remote a lot with Prime.

What ads?
Never watch anything live with the MediaPortal TV Server. :)

Opinions are my own and not the views of my employer.

Tend to record everything on (elderly) Panny DVD recorder before viewing. It has a magic 60 second ad-skip button, so I virtually never watch anything live or see ads. Problem solved.

+1 to MediaPortal TV Server.

I have to say that broadcast television is really at a crossroads, a bit like the music industry was. I think the future really has to be subscription based, on-demand content. Kind of like Spotify for TV.

Has anybody noticed how many ads have crept into their very expensive Sky subscription???

So let's say, hypothetically that you had to watch live tv? What then? Apocalypse... No marmite, marmageddon??

But how would the ads sound then?

No, i have mysky and only watch live sports or ESPN and if watching a channel and adds come on , i have another 30 or so channels to switch to, so i never see the adds

Common sense is not as common as you think.

Hypothetically, they wouldn't - I would either mute them or change channels when they came on.

But even with FTA TV it's not hard - press record, 15 minutes later press play, skip each ad break. After 45 minutes you have watched the "hour long" show and caught up, reclaimed 15 minutes of your life, and not seen an ad.

hdinsider:  The old fair go ad awards was/is on and they had a segment on shouty commercials and their volume compared with programmes.

And the story included an engineer's report that this was about to be ended by technology.

It sounds like they're about to introduce Dolby Dialog Normalization. If set up properly this can work very well.

Here's hoping - and that other broadcasters will follow.

TV3 claim to have implimented measures some time ago, but I do notice that the odd AC3 5.1 show will end and the voice-over at the end of it can often start as loud and then drop down in volume as it goes.

They do claim its a hard thing to manage other than the peak output level, but theres no difference in volume but how 'loud' you perceive it
