Hi guys

Using a digital compass what bearing are you guys setting a dish up for optus 160e.  In theory i should be setting the dish up at 340deg (180+160E), but my sky dish and the ones I am playing with are coming in around 320 ish.  Is this down to mag drift?  I did not notice it so much up in europe.

The position of the satellite in orbit is completely a different value to the angle to find it from an earth coordinate.

Use dishpointer.com and you'll find the exact bearing you need. Magnetic and exact bearings are listed there.

It depends on your own location, but as an example, Optus d1 from paihia, northland, would be 336.5 degrees true or 317.7 degrees magnetic. At an elevation of 46.4 degrees, if it helps.
