Hi All

I wonder if anyone else has tried this set up or if anyone knows if it'll work...

I want to set up a UK Freeview DVR for example: http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/humax-hdr-fox-t2-freeview-hd-recorder-153-99-comet-instore-1366917

and setup smartDNS on it so it thinks it is based in the UK for BBC iPlayer and Sky Player etc etc. so live streaming/download of their content.

I was also hoping that the it would be able to receive NZ FreeviewHD...

Anyone know if this will work?

Dont think youll be able to use the Freeview part here due to different standards etc.

I doubt it. The channel spacing may be OK but we use H264 for video and MHEG5 for EPG.
NZ's Freeview system is generally incompatible with other countries equipment.
You can probably get internet streaming BBC via a proxy server (VPN) on your PC.

wont work with NZ freeview almost 100% sure.

your alternative is to guy an android dongle, setup unblock-us.com or something similar, and put iPlayer app (and Netflix, Hulu etc whatever you want) onto it and watch it via that.

I went through something similar a while back with the whole PlayTV for PS3 debacle. Setting this to France worked a treat here in NZ, but yeah, as outlined above, there are different standards all over the world. NZ does share our format with some other countries though, but we're definitely not DVB-T2 like the unit you've linked to.

DVBT2 should handle DVBT (backwards compatible)

They mix DVB-T mpeg2 and DVB-T2 H.264 so one could assume that DVB-T H.264 would also work. MHEG5 also used. Other transmission parameters are similar.

Yeah this is one significant point of 'uniqueness'. When PlayTV kicked off we had pictures long before we had audio, apart from channels offering additional dolby soundtracks. At the time this was TV3 only, but now I believe the main 3 all have this.

No specific mention of AAC-HE audio here in the specs:

However, it seems freeview in the UK might use AAC-HE audio, so one would assume this would be ok here too?
