Hello...im from Taranaki.

Im resetting my Fortec Star Box...so I can watch freeview at least...im connected with a small standard sky dish.

Im not an expert..but i can set manually the frequency ...Symbol rate....Polarity.

So my question....what are those numbers for my region???


At the moment ....playing with my box....i did fund sky channells....SBS Australia.....but im just looking for the Free NZ channells.

Hello

The satellite service which you're receiving is effectively a nationwide service... so the same settings work no matter where you are in NZ.

The channels which are available from the satellite along with the corresponding tuning details can be found -->here<--.

Taking the first Freeview "transponder" as an example:
- the "12456 H" in the first column means 12456 MHz is the frequency and the polarity/polarisation is horizontal (H = horizontal, V = vertical)
- the "22500 3/4" in the sixth column means symbol rate is 22500 ks/s and FEC rate is 3/4
- the "DVB-S" in the fifth column means the modulation scheme is QPSK

In other words:
Frequency = 12456 MHz
Polarity = horizontal
Modulation = DVB-S QPSK
Symbol rate = 22500 ks/s
FEC rate = 3/4

There are two other transponders with Freeview channels. The settings are the same as above except the frequencies are different - 12483 MHz and 12671 MHz.

PS: Freeview may also be available via an aerial in your area. Receiving via an aerial is the recommended method because it enables you to receive high definition versions of TV One, TV 2 and TV 3. Note there are a couple of channels which are only available via satellite and some which are only available via aerial. See the Freeview website for more details.

Before you start entering transponder frequencies, I'd suggest you will need to enter the L.O. frequencies for your LNB (Sky dish).

This is likely to be either 11300 or 10750.

Read this similar thread for some more detail.


EDIT: Just saw that you found some SBS channels. These are on Optus C1/D3, not Optus D1 that Freeview is on.

This suggests two things:

1) You have a dual throat LNB - this means your LO frequency should be 10750

2) You have turned 22kHz on - turn this off.

Thanks....still no luck....this is how i set up my box now.

LNB Type = Standard

LNB Frequency 11300 (Ive got standard sky dish)

22kHz = ON

DiseqC = OFF

LNB Power = ON

0/12V = 12 V

TP = 12456 H 22500 ...and 12483 H 22500

Positioner Setting = 1.2

Satellite Scan = ALL



As i said...i can get quality when i change my TPs....example i can watch SBS Australia info channell....LOL

Thanks ....just done...now LO frequency is 10750 and 22kHz is OFF.

So what satellite am i getting??? example...i have good quality 90/91%.....if i select TPs 12308 H 22500 and 12339 V 15000....but they are encrypted channells i see........


the only thing i wanted atm....is Freeview :(

Those transponders don't seem to match with either D1 or C1, unless the LNB is either non standard or drifting due to age.

Any chance of a photo of the LNB? Or if you can get to it easily, it should have the L.O. frequency written on it.

Well I'm guessing the "SBS info" channel that you're referring to is the Aurora info channel on C1 12407 V 30000. If it is showing a cycle of info/warnings about Aurora subscriptions (smartcards, distributors, VAST etc.) then that is definitely Optus C1.

The thing is, I'm not aware of any other channels that we can receive from NZ on that satellite... so like RunningMan I suspect your LNB settings may be incorrect or the LNB is dying. Note that there are some transponders with SR 15000 that host data feeds, but I think they're on D1 (eg. 12326 V).

Yes...its definetly Aurora info visible....all others channell with good quality...are encrypted....sad!

So how can i test my LNB???

Right, so the correct LO for that LNB is 10750.
Those particular LNBs have started to die across the country. As they die the LO can vary, especially with temperature. I guess the dish alignment or LNB skew could also be wrong... but more likely the LNB is dying.
At present your LNB LO seems to be roughly -13 MHz out, which means all the transponder frequencies have to be adjusted by +13 MHz. Try scanning 12469 H 22500, 12496 H 22500 and 12684 H 22500, but probably better to plan on getting a new LNB in the very near future. Sky should replace for free if you are a Sky subscriber.

PS: that LNB can receive C1 when 22 kHz tone is active, so make sure the 22k setting is set to "off" or the LNB switch frequency (possibly available where you enter the 10750 MHz LO frequency) is set to 12750 MHz.

[Edit: alternatively, adjust the LNB LO from 10750 MHz to 10763 MHz and use the standard transponder settings 12456, 12483 and 12671 MHz]

OK, if you are seeing that channel - it's on Optus C1/D3.

Your LNB should have a LO frequency of 10750, and it has a 22kHz switch which selects C1 rather than D1 when turned on.

Do you definitely have 22kHz off? Are there any other set top boxes plugged in around the house that could have 22kHz turned on? The reason I ask is that activating 22kHz flicks those LNBs over to C1.

If there is nothing with 22kHz turned on, then it is possible that a previous tenant has realigned the dish so that it points to C1 rather than D1.

The Aurora test channel you can see - what frequency is your STB reporting this on?

As you said...i tried 12496...and pop!!!!

Not normally. Basically, the LNB on your dish is just about dead, and as they die, the frequency they operate on drifts out. We've calculated the amount it has drifted from the numbers you have provided, and then given you a "dummy" transponder to enter.

Mmmmm so If i join sky...example for a month....it wont work...unless they replace my LNB???

I dont know how much cost to replace this LNB...but maybe would be easier to join sky...just for a month!!! LOL

When they did the install, they'd have to replace the LNB.

Or you could replace it with a new one from here.
