This has come around quickly! Anyone in the south still to sort out their old analogue gear?

The area I live in will be switched off on 29 Sep. We have a TV, DVD/hard drive recorder and a combo DVD/video recorder that won't make the pass unless we get a couple of freeview boxes.

Common sense is not as common as you think.

Too true. I've read a few articles estimating how many people ain't made the switch yet. I'm sure there's probably a few who are blissfully unaware that it's even about to happen.

There will no doubt be some calls to service agents with people saying "my TV is only showing snow"

Yea one older lady next door asked me what she had to do. She has sky.

There is an older guy at work who doesn't have it and knows he has to do something. But keeps getting confused thinking he has to get a dish etc. he already has a UHF aerial. I've told him to get a my freeview box aaa he records lots of tv. But he wants to be able to put it onto DVD to pass it around to family

Tell him to get one of the Panasonic Freeview recorders.

It does DVD archiving. I'm not sure that those DVD will be able to be played on a standalone DVD player though. There are restrictions on recording HD content onto removable media.

And yes, they can. They are transcoded to SD on DVD but the Blu Ray Recorder will record HD to Blu Ray disc which can be used in other players. I have the BWT720 and have confirmed this. Can also be transferred to PC unless signal has HD content protection included which seems to be less often now. Most recent HD programs I've recorded (in the last 2 weeks) don't seem to have been transmitted with any HD content protection.

Nice, pretty much makes them the perfect solution for people wanting to replace the old VCR (or DVD recorder). They are easy to use, reliable and the DVD version is not horribly priced.

Are there any messages showing on South Island analogue channels advising DSO tonight? or just a case of "too bad we gave you plenty of warning"?

I think they have been very very good with telling people what is happening. It has been advertised so many many months now. If people haven't switched it is their own fault. While I do feel sorry for the older generation, there is a hot line for them to call and if they go to a shop they will come away with a digital TV or set top box.

It will be interesting to watch the TV news on Sunday night to see how many have been caught 'unawares' by this.

I'm wondering more if any TV geeks will be recording analogue tonight and showing the switch off, then uploaded it to youtube. Plenty of these kind of vids on youtube from Aus, USA and UK.

I only found one picture from the Hawkes Bay DSO of a tech at TVworks transmitter shortly after switch off
