Hi,

Please help me, I'm going nuts!

I used to get all the freeview channels on my panasonic DVD recorder.

I don't know what I have changed but now I can only get channels 3: TV3, 4:  FOUR,  8: TV3 Plus1, 9: C4, 18: The Shopping Channel.

I have tried using easy setup to reload the channels but no luck, I have restored from the factory settings and from the shipping settings but still no luck.

My TV can receive channel 1 and 2 when not going through my panasonic DVD recorder so why can't my DVD recorder get channel 1 and 2 (and whatever else is missing).

I have tried to enter a timed recording for channel 2 (one of the channels I can't get at the moment) tomorrow night and I get an error message saying that the program cannot be booked at this time, please try later - (code -2).

Can you help?

Regards
Alison.

Sounds like a signal strength issue. What sort of TV aerial do you have and how is it split between the multiple devices?

I'm not sure about the type if ariel but the tv gets channel 1 & 2 very clearly so surely its not that ariel?
I have tried it again this morning and it still doesn't pick up all the channels.

Just because the TV isn't working doesn't exclude the aerial as being the cause.

Definitely seems to be a sjgnal strength issue.
Is your TV picking up all the other channels as well?
What signal strength is indicated in the tuning menu?
Picture of your aerial might help.
What is your location?
Aerial should be UHF only with good quality rg6 co-ax direct to Recorder and TV.

When you say the TV picks up 1 & 2 easily, is this on Freeview, or the old analog (VHF) transmissions?

Do you have a UHF aerial?

Whereabouts are you?

It is fairly well documented in these forums that those Panasonic units are very susceptible to too much (or any) VHF signal - it can 'flood' the UHF tuner in them. You can get filters to filter out the VHF signal on the line.

Thanks for all the helpful comments.

I'm not sure what sort of ariel I have, I will have a look in the morning and take a photo - as looking at the ariel won't tell me anything. I've tried to find out what sort of ariel I had before and found it difficult to tell. The ariel may have more than I am using though as there is a long cable coming out of the ariel socket that I don't use - it might be for sky - the cable plug didn't fit into my TV or recorder.

Last night the signal quality of the channels I could get was 6, tonight it is 7 and there are 8 more channels and 3 radio stations - all with a signal quality of 2.

I have retuned my TV to try and see which channels are digital. It picks up ATV and DTV channels but doesn't tell me which channels are digital and which aren't.

Sounds like I either need a different ariel or a filter?

Everything worked on the DVD recorder until last night, we had had some bad weather the night before though, maybe that has pushed my ariel around a bit.

I am in Tauranga.

Hi, the quality readings for each channel should be 8/10 or better if the aerial and cable are ok. Get an aerial installer to test the levels and give you a quote for fixing the problem. It's probably the best way to get reliable tv.

don't mess with me.... i'm the hd insider....

Thanks for that. I will get someone to have a look at my ariel.
I have tried to upload a photo of it. I couldn't paste it onto this post. It said it would be uploaded to the gallery.

Your TV must surely indicate what channels are tuned as you can only watch either analogue or digital at any one time, not both. Thats why the remote has a button to select analogue or digital tuner. If you select digital you should have about 19 channels available depending on location. Analogue will only have a few channels.

P.S. Your aerial should look like one of these.
