Just wondering would anyone know how to convert the .tsv files to .avi or something similar, From the Freeview box.

Tried recording a show from my Freeview box (On to a usb) and it turned out ok and also plays on the box but I want to convert it over so I can edit the ads out plus watch on my pc while I’m at it.

I tried doing a Google search and found no leads what so ever, so anyone got any ideas?

PS. Also doesn't want to play on VLC nor trying to import into Handbrake.

.tsv is just a container for the video.
If it is from terrestrial freeview it is probably h264
It should play in VLC without problem with the .tsv container

see if it will play in smplayer

try avidemux to remux into a different container or edit / re-encode

if it wont play or load in either of those your Freeview box is probably saving the files in some strange proprietary format.

It seems to me that your Freeview box may be encrypting the files, as is required under the "Freeview Approved" regime, to prevent copying between devices.

My Vu+ Duo also produces .TS files which are H264 encoded, but VLC and WMP both play the files without any drama.

Some more information would be useful:
- what is the make/model of the box?
- is it a Freeview approved unit?
- are you recording satellite or terrestrial
- is the channel/show in question HD?

Are all bits of information that would aid people in trying to help you.

Perhaps posting the details that MediaInfo Lite reports from a file could be helpful as well.

If it isn't an encrypted file then Handbrake(mkv) or HDConvertToX(mkv/avi) will both do a great job.

Alrightie then, well..
The make and model is: Loranz, LZ0031STB-USB
It is a Freeview approved unit.
Recording by Terrestrial.
Tried with HD and doesnt work in VLC, Also tried is SD and I can hear bits of the audio only in VLC.

It does play on the freeview box its self but like I said I want to convert it over so I can edit out the ads.

Download the free trial of TS Doctor and see if that spits out a .TS file that will play in VLC. :)

You could try VideoReDo V4.
It handles .ts (Hauppage recorded) and .tts (Panasonic recorded) OK.
I don't know about .tsv as I don't have a .tsv file and have never seen one.
They do a 15 day free trial so you could download it and try.

MPEG Streamclip may be able to open it too. I don't know whether the Windows version is as good as the Mac one but you could give it a go.

Given that the Loranz is a fairly new model, it's Freeview approved, and you are using terrestrial (=HD) feeds, then I think you are probably out of luck.

I suspect that the issue you have to deal with isn't finding software that will cope with and convert FV terrestrial signals, despite the fairly rare (HE-AAC LATM) audio codec they use, that's pretty straightforward. Rather, to gain the FV approval, they are forced to encrypt the recordings in a way that ties them to the unit you recorded them on. If this is the case, the encryption means you have hit a dead end. Options are essentially:

- give up
- buy a different unapproved (= non-crippled) FV box, or
- go the PC route.

There are more esoteric options that would work, such as capturing the output of the box to a PC using an HDCP stripper, but the ones above are the simplest.
