I have a zinwell zmt 640 pvr.
It shows it has a full hdd but there is nothing on  it in the channel list. When I try format it in the zinwell it the progress bar stops after about 10 seconds then I can't do anything apart from turn it off at the wall.
I pulled the hdd out and stuck it in my pc installed windows on it seemed to run fine, checked the disk for errors etc. I put it back in the zinwell, but same thing it shows as full and won't format

Just a thought, have you tried another harddrive in the Zinwell?

no I don't have a spare one lying around
Edit: If I plug a 2.5" laptop hdd into the zinwell just to try that should be ok? I can wipe my laptop one to try, has nothing important on it

Ok so I put the laptop hdd into the zinwell and was able to format it. It says it is recording but there is nothing in the recording list to play back. When I plugged the original hdd back in I still wasn't able to format it
