For some years now I have had my old (huge) 26 inch TV with cabinet sitting unused in my spare room. Used to watch digital TV on it using a terrestrial set top box (not HD tho) but have had a flat screen with digital tuner for ages.

Is there any value in the old CRT TVs (and their cabinets? From a quick "look around":-

1. folk are trying to sell them on Trademe at start bids of $1.00 and getting no bids
2. op shops do not take them as they have huge stocks of them on hand

The set runs perfectly well (via set top box) and looks good on its own (branded) cabinet. I have wondered whether rest homes or retirement villages might take my set - for free as I would like to see it go to a good home.

Also, I have analogue tuner VCR  and DVD players on hand. They are pretty much useless (to me anyway) but, again, work perfectly well and I would give them away free to a good home.

Has anyone got any ideas, comments, contacts etc as to where I might dispose of these items.

My only other option is to take them all to an electronics recycling centre to be safely dismantled and disposed of.

Thanks for any good ideas.

Our dump has a 'recycling' section where they identify and sell perfectly good stuff that others throw away, you can also take good stuff you don't want directly there. It has been a few months but when I last visited they must have had over 50 CRT TV's there! Cant even give them away.

Depending where you live there may be a electronic disposal service. They are a bit of an environmental hazard.

Lazy is such an ugly word, I prefer to call it selective participation

This,

With a 26" HD LCD TV currently going for around $500, there is really little to be saved by inflicting an SD CRT on people,

and I think you will find that all the rest homes will have a 50 inch LCD on the wall in their "TV room",
