This is all nice and dandy, but with Sommet Sports coming online, suddenly I've got DVB-T envy.
I live in West Timaru, and my view of Cave Hill would be great if I lived at the top of my street. Unfortunately I live in the bottom of a shallow gully. I've tried an indoor aerial and I could get a useable signal for the TVNZ channels by holding it up near the ceiling. Looking around the neighbourhood most houses seem to have 43el or 48el antennas on tall masts. I'de prefer not to put such a tall mast up. Not only is it unsightly, but the bracing & ties required mean more holes in the roofing iron, and when the wind gets up it generates a noticeable amount of noise in the house.
I've got a few questions before I go further:
- Does a tri-boom antenna make much of a difference over a single boom?
- Is it worth buying something off trademe, or is the quality too variable?
- Is there anything else I should be aware of?
