Hi all, I have recently failed at installing Satellite Freeview. I have DVB-T all set up in the lounge and am trying to get satellite in the bedrooms.

So.......From the Satellite (even though I drew a sweet aerial on my diagram) I used RG6 wires and splitters and is terminated at belling lee wall plugs. The first run using the old sky cable works, but nothing after the second splitter. Any ideas?

1) Used "F" plugs, not belling lee

2) Use satellite rated splitters (higher frequency), not the saddle / clamp style, and allow power pass

3) Don't cascade the splitters - use a 4 way instead

Firstly make sure they are satellite splitters with dc feedthrough for the LNB voltage supply. Standard TV splitters don't work for satellite dish feeds.
Presumably you are talking multiroom and not trying to get Sky in the other rooms via rf from your STB? The drawing would indicate the former.
A little more info would be useful for a diagnosis. Nice artwork though.
And wall sockets for satellite cables normally use f29 connectors.

Definitely a single multiway splitter rather than cascading.

They are the old belling lee wall plates that were used with the old aerial on the roof. The splitters say satellite on them.

OK.
Looks like I may have misread your original post and thought you were looking at Sky Satellite.
Just wondering now why you want Freeview Satellite when you already have Freeview HD. Just add a STB or two for Freeview HD if your other TVs are not Freeview ones. Freeview Satellite is not HD.

I wanted to use satellite as I already have a couple of sat set top boxes, I just removed the first splitter so no cascading now but no joy. I get the same signal strength and quality at every outlet.

cartoonis: Any ideas?

I have 3 ideas:

1) That image keeps making me see a cow or something
2) You should totally be a CAD designer
3) You should put a hyphen in when you spell don't.

4) I had one more. Those downstream units, when you go to use them, is something still plugged into the first splitter outlet?
ie, that one that works up the front, leave it on and see if the outlets work downstream then.

If that suddenly makes them work, then the first splitter may only have power pass on one port, and thus need a device to be plugged in upstream to power the LNB.

5) I had a few more than 3 thoughts.... Are the settings on the boxes plugged into the 2 downstream outlets correct? ie do you have the right LNB settings on these to match the LNB on your roof? If they are freeview approved units then you could consider factory resetting them so they detect the LNB again.

Hopefully some of that is actually useful :-)

yeah yeah you two! I have tried both outlets down the line now that I have removed the first splitter, so this is the only one in use now:

Also, it is a standard sky LNB which I know to work as it was working in the outside room and on the first split before I removed it so the dish and offset of the LNB must be correct.

With just the one splitter, it should just work then, assuming you are only trying to receive Freeview channels on horizontal polarity.

The Belling Lee plugs won't be helping, but if the dish is well aimed, and the rest of the connections OK, it should probably still work.

Are you trying it with the same STB at each outlet? Is all the cabling new? No shorts inside any of the plugs you have fitted?

That was going to be the next conversation. Did you do the install work yourself?
Have you tried replacing the second splitter with the first one that you have now removed?
How have you joined the cable if you've removed the first splitter?

Any chance of some photos?

Have you tried all the set top boxes on the one outlet that was working?

You basically have to proceed with a process of elimination now to track down where the issue is.

I'll grab a few photos tonight, also I have used a couple of different set top boxes on each outlet.
