I'm looking to get something to record freeview for my 73 year old Mum.

She isn't at all tech savvy, but likes the idea of booking recordings from an EPG.

How easy is this to do? How about listing recordings? Is that a single button operation? And deleting watched programs?

Any feedback would be welcome. I am living in Aus, so I can't just grab one and walk her through it.

Thanks

I have used this model for the last three years.

the good: setup a future recording from the EPG and series link
one button on the remote shows all recordings and can list by alpha and by date
easy to delete recordings
remembers where you were if you stop a recording
plus many more

the bad: slow to respond - sometimes
does not identify watched recordings
you must set the recording offset to three + minutes as I have missed the end of recordings due to the EPG being out of sync with the clock

however, a very easy device to use. responsive remote and quality picture/sound

I also own the t1000. what a terrible device, but it was cheap.

Thanks very much for that feedback.

It sounds like it is worth getting to see if it is a good match.

Ok, some new questions.

I spent 3 hours on the phone trying to get my over 70 Mum set up with her T1020. Interesting experience!

The on-screen menus for the "Channel Organizer" setup menu (under "User Settings") list buttons at the bottom:

RED "Lock" GREEN "Skip" BLUE "Delete" OK "Select" BACK

All buttons are available except BACK. I looked in an old version of the user manual and there was a BACK button near the top of the remote, but this latest remote has no BACK button. If she is in a menu and pushes EXIT it exits completely out of the menu system and she has to navigate back in to the right menu, enter the PIN etc. It is a pain.

Any ideas? Is there another button that does the same thing as BACK on the new remote?

She has twice tried to delete channels she doesn't want to see (Racing, Shopping etc). She selects "Delete" for those channels and then OK when they are all marked delete. She is prompted with a message "Are you sure you want to delete the marked channels" (or something similar), pushes OK, and yet the channels are still there when she navigates with the channel rocker button. Is she missing something?

In the "User Settings"/"User Preference" menu she had trouble setting values for items like "Recording Start Offset". The GUI has two columns, left hand side with preferences, right hand side values.

The manual says "Note: To adjust a preference use the right arrow on your remote not the OK button."

She navigates down to the preference she wants to set, uses the right arrow to select it, and focus is shifted to the right hand column and she is able to change the value with the up and down arrows. However, the value does not seem to be retained when she uses left arrow to return to the left hand side. Does she need to press OK to save that preference change?

Any help much appreciated.

I have the T1050 at home and one thing that drove me nuts was there is an aerial output jack on the back but if you chain it thru to your TV when the T1050 was put on standby the aerial feed was cut.. Had to use a parallel feed splitter.

Solved the BACK issue -- the new remote assigns this to the MENU button.

Still wondering about deleting channels and changing options.
