Good Morning

Needing some advice plz...I have brought a LG 50 inch plasma with inbuilt freeviw... When I received the tv we went to plug in the UHF aerial cable and found tht the cable has been cut and i have been advised by aerial people tht its gonna cost me about $150 to get new cables connected... My question is Can I jst buy a digital top set box as I do hve a sky dish with cords intact and would it work with my tv?? I have not been able to get a straight answer from anyone/shops or even going digital help desk as to weather or not it would work... Im jst trying to not spend so much money as I know I can get a top set box from around $70... Please any help and or advice would be great...

Yes, if you have a satellite dish then you can use a satellite set-top box. It'll plug in just like any other device (DVD player, Xbox, etc).

Yes, but it will be standard definition, not high def.

Do you know where the cable is cut - might not be too hard to repair?

Um the cable cannot reach the lounge now and I dnt know whether I can jst buy some connector thingees and extra cable and join together or not... Could tht be a possibility to buy connectors?? And thanx for the replies about being able to use the satelite digital top set boxes...

Freeview Satellite is not only just standard definition but heavily compressed, so the quality is generally very poor compared with the UHF terrestrial service.

For the sake of only $150 I would strongly recommend that you get your UHF aerial fixed. If you've just spent a lot of money on a 50" TV then you will want to get the best out of it.

The cable and connectors are readily available, if you have some basic electrical experience, or know someone who can help you. As others have said, the UHF HD signal is far better than that from the satellite, as long as you live in a coverage area.

Agreed, I recommend you don't use satellite if you have terrestrial services in your area.

What's the point in having a new 50" TV capable of delivering a high quality picture, and then feeding it with a sub standard satellite signal?
Leave satellite reception to those people in rural areas that aren't served by a UHF terrestrial signal.

Thnx for the replies everyone... I will jst hve to bite the bullet and get the UHF done... I cud of put the $150 towards my babies xmas but im sure they wont mind down sizing their gifts for the sake of hvn crystal clear cartoons and programes daily lol... Thnks heaps...
