Hello

I decided to buy my first HDTV with Freeview built in. I have tried to connect it with my old Sony Rdrgx350 DVD Recorder 1080p upscaling for recording purposes. I think i'm right that i wont be able to record form the built in freeview or can i?

Would i be able to run a external freeview box (Not HD) and DVD recorder through the TV and be able to record from the external Freeview box?

Hmm doesn't look like that device has any inputs bar aerial. Although maybe that Line 1 SCART connector allows input as well?

TBH you might be better just to take the hit and look for a freeview UHF recorder.

Yep, looks like the DVD recorder has no inputs (which is odd), so connecting a Freeview box won't work (and you wouldn't get HD anyway even if it had analog inputs).

I'd also recommend replacing the Sony DVD recorder. Panasonic do some nice units with built in Freeview tuners and HDD recording.

Edit: It seems it does have inputs - S-Video and Composite video via front panel connections - so you could connect a cheapo freeview box to it and record from that, but it would only be SD, and timer recording would be a pain (you'd need the freeview box set to the right channel).

yeah, so even if the dvdrecorder had inputs the problem of either dual setting a program (some freeview boxes can be told to change channel on a timer) then setting up the dvd recorder to record. Or Making sure the freeview box is on the correct channel before the recording starts are the other factors why I'd recommend a "proper" freeview recorder.

Yeah, I had one of those (or similar) many years ago. Should work OK. Any FreeviewHD STB, use the composite AV out to the SCART input on the back. One of the SCART sockets is output to TV and the other is input from external devices.
Use the component out to the TV. Won't record in HD but will record OK. You'll need SCART to composite cables or adaptors. They're readily available.
