My parent need a budget USB PVR, which of these two would be the better choice?

Loranz LZ0031STB-USB or DishTV T1020

Requirements:

- Reliable 8 day EPG (old vantage PVR's EPG was diabolical, only saw three programs ahead and didn't update on the fly - had to restart the damned thing all the time)
- Simple record scheduling via EPG (but don't need series link)
- Reliable recording and playback to USB HDD (vantage used to corrupt things)
- Single tuner is fine, but simultaneous watching and recording on the same freq would be nice
- Native res output would be a boon (ie. TV handles scaling instead of STB)

IMHO neither. If you want reliability get a Panasonic.

$100 max constrains options and, given that, I would say the Dish model.

But I'm with B1GGLZ - if you can stretch the budget to a Panasonic the experience will be much, much better.

I'm really surprised that Panasonic seems to be the only one of the mass market consumer electronics producers to sell PVRs in New Zealand. You would think that there would be a big market opportunity for the other players, but I guess a lot of people these days are relying on services like 3Now instead.
