We currently are receiving no Freeview signal at all during the day, but it then resumes about 7 at night. Prime is the first to resume, followed by all the other channels about 1/2 hr later. We live in Taumarunui and satellite is our only option. Our freeview box has been checked OK by swapping with our son who lives iin Taupo - we get the same issue with both his box and ours, but both are OK at his place. Our settings are all OK and I have played around with the LNB frequency to no avail. Our satellite dish is an older one - ex Sky I think?? - and the cables appear to be OK too.

We have never had these problems before now and rain fade doesn't seem to affect us much. This issue began with no signal occasionally, then escalated to no signal at all during the day. I read on the Freeview site FAQ that some people can experience no signal issues during March/April for about 15 minutes due to something to do with the sun. We don't seem to have problems with rain fade at all.

Are our problems more likely to be due to that Freeview issue or the little receiver thingey (not sure of its name) on the satellite dish? Since we live 1.5 hrs from the nearest service centre, getting someone to look at it is the last option. Yes, living in the country is hard in more ways than one!

Any suggestions would be appreciated thank you.

You need to replace the LNB on the arm of the dish as its LO frequency is drifting outside the lockable range of your Freeview box.  In the cooler evening hours, the LO returns closer to the correct frequency, so your box can once again tune it in.  Exactly the same thing happened to me a couple of years back but a quick trip to the Freeview Shop website fixed it:

Thanks for that. That's exactly what my son said would probably be the problem, so will get him to sort for us. Cheers again

If I replace my current LNB with the Zenus dual output LNB from the Freeview site, can I then run 2 cables from it, connect them to 2 TVs (each with their own freeview boxes), and watch 2 different channels at the same time?  Or is it more complicated than that?

freeview is on horizontal so you dont need a dual lnb if your decoder has lnb out you can run a cable between them.

Most STBs have LNB in and out terminals so you can daisy chain them. Much cheaper than another run of co-ax from the dish. You could also use a splitter instead.

Can you watch different channels on the 2 tvs by doing it the daisy chain way?

sounds like a failing LNB, try leaving the TV on and hosing it down during the day.  if it comes on that's your issue for sure.  I did it with mine a while ago

Didn't think of the hosing idea!  But I think we have established that the LNB is the problem and have ordered another online this am.  Cheers for that!

Yes
Each STB is independant, just shares the dish.
