I’m starting to grow pretty tired with my Samsung PVR (F8500) and am pretty interested in the Vu+ range of boxes. I like the dual tuner option in the Duo2, and the fact that the community is pretty active.

I’m just not sure how it all works…

I think it goes like this: I get a box from somewhere (probably Ebay) with the desired tuner/hdd configuration and then I have to install an image for it to run (Blackhole?) and finally configure that image for Freeview NZ.

How easy is the setup? Does the guide look any good and have series recording capabilities? I find the MySKY peg awful, and the Freeview guide barely acceptable. Anything must be better than those...

It’s all linux based isn’t it? Does that mean that the images are just a Linux distro with a front end? i.e. can I install other apps like Plex directly, or do these need to be baked into the install image in the first place?

I assume the best place for support is the Vu+ support pages?

I see a few people have these so it would be interesting to know how people have found them over the years.

I have a Vu Duo. and it goes well, check out world of satellite for heaps of info, it can do do more than I know how to do with it,
you can do series recording as well

Linux box's like the vu+ or dreamboxs work all ok down in NZ I brought down with me from europe both a tm-twin which is a dual tuner linux box and a genuine dreambox 800hd. I put up a portable dish and also connect it to my skynz dish. They are linux and they use engima 2 which is kind of a distro for them and all other image makers just change things around a little. I got my blue sky card to work in my box do I could record sky as the basic pace box I had could not do that. Its the other things that make these box's so much more, install a program called tsmedia plugin onto the box and install a hard drive and you have access to loads of free movies and tv shows from around the world. I used the box to keep up to date with uk tv using iptv. Theres also lots of other things that can be done with these box's and googling cccam should give you an idea, but due to your market location things are very much restricted in this field.
