Hi there,

Am sick of paying $100/month for Myski HDI and sport and so looking to go cold turkey and move to freeview.

Have become addicted to series recording and being able to watch while recording and so looking for a freeview box that will do the following (by TV doesnt have built in freeview:

- Able to record two freeview channels at the same time while I watch the third
- Provides great HiDef picture quality
- Has DLNA streaming capability so that 1) I can watch recorded programmes on the box around the house and 2) has the ability to be able to connect to other DNLA servers on my network (like Serviio)
- Would be good if it can play bluray (3d) so that I can get rid of my PS3

Does anyone have any recommendations of which to get?

Also, as a secondary question - does freeview satelite have the same channels and hi-def as freeview UHF? If so, am I just able to plug a freeview satelite recorder into where my SKY is currently plugged and it will work without any changing to the dish?

To obtain HD images you will be limited to Terrestrial (UHF) freeview as satellite freeview is only in SD

Panasonic recorder if you are in a terrestrial reception (UHF) area.
Terrestrial is HD
Satellite is crappy SD.

P.S. Minor channel differences.

If there any Panasonic box you would recommend to meet my needs, and the cheapest place to buy it?

Take your pick but the 835 or 840 are the best.

If you want to use the advanced features you may get a better experience from the latest 840 model. It's much cheaper away from JBHIFI unless they're willing to give a large discount

If your TV lacks built in Freeview are you sure it supports 3D? What model is it?

Although you can watch a channel while recording two others you can only do so if all three channels are on two muxes. There are three UHF muxes and no Freeview PVR has three tuners.

I have a Panasonic Hard Drive recorder - I think mine is an old model with only a 500GB hard drive, but it works just fine with FreeView and seems to show up in Windows 8.1 with the DLNA stuff (although I never use this). I have a UHF Arial so have FreeView HD.

Basically I just set the series I want to watch every now and again and it records them.

Thanks very much for all the replies. Have narrowed it down to the Panasonic range given they have bluray capability built in.

Harvey norman has the PWT530GZ on a special till monday at $478 and also have the BWT840GZ for $844. I also see Pana has the BWT835GZ model as well.

What do I gain with the 835GZ/840GZ over the 530GZ? It would be nice if the Pana wesbite had a comparison somewhere.

JBHIFI now has the BWT840GZ for $777

The 530 lacks the ability to write to discs and has a smaller hard drive.
