Hi

I have download a short video from youtube (file extension .MP4) onto a USB, but my freeview box wouldn't play it. Says no 'Movies' found.
I gather it must be recognising only certain file extensions as movies.
It plays .MP3 songs without any issues.
I am sure there's plenty of you out there who know the answer so pl help!!

Depends on your FV box... most will play MPG and AVI quite happily, so try converting that file to AVI.

I think that's a standard satellite receiver and not a Freeview approved box. Being a television receiver doesn't mean it can play all media files and many can't play any at all.

Maybe you could try hooking up a laptop to your TV?

The Freeview satellite service isn't available in HD so if you're in the Freeview terrestrial UHF broadcast area you'd need a terrestrial receiver to put HD on your TV if it supports HD.

it looks like the box supports videos in AVI, VOB, MPG, DAT

You could try changing the file extension to MPG, but given that this is a MPEG2 satellite receiver, its unlikely that it will have the horsepower to do MP4, best reencode your file into either MPG (2) or AVI with something like Handbrake.
