Hello everyone,

I've been pulling my hair out and am at the point of getting chap out to check my dish / swap out my LNB as I just can't find any settings that work,

I'm in a rental just north of Auckland and the last tenant had sky working, I have a sharp dual LNB and it has the following printed on its label:

Ku-LNBF
BS1D1AQ412A
L.O 10.75GHz

11.7-12.75/12.25-12.75HGz
950-2000 / 1500-2000MHz

It seems to have 4 outputs and the left 2 are connected (looking face on into the dish) - Nothing else inline before my receiver. It also seems to be correctly angled at 8'o clock which I think is correct anyway.

I'm trying to get some FTA channels for my SageTV PVR setup and I went and bought a USB DVB-S2 tuner but have not been able to get that working but I suspect that's a driver issue as I'm running a server OS rather then win7 on my PVR. Anyway there were too many variables so I went and bought a cheap "MAXplus+" HTS2700S on Trademe and have been trying to pickup any channels just to see if my disk is ok. So far after reading what feels like the whole internet I've not found any settings that work on a scan.

I have the following options on Satellite Setup:
LNB Power: On/Off
LNB Type: Single/Universal/OCS
LNB Freq:
22KHz - Auto/On/Off
DiSEqC Switch.

Would anyone be able to confirm some basic settings to get me going? I do have a spare single LNB with 8 connections in a box that I could try with if needed its from a Sky setup over in the UK and was working fine.

Try manually entering LNB settings

LO 10750
22kHz off
Power on (or H/V)

So I setup the LNB type as single with those settings and ran scans against the following frequency's:

12.305 Ghz H
12.358 H
12.367 V
12.398 H
12.407 V
12.438 H
12.478 H
12.487 V
12.518 H
12.527 V
12.558 H
12.567 V
12.598 H
12.607 V
12.638 H
12.647 V
12.689 H
12.692 V
12.728 V

My Level always shows between 95%-98% and the Quality bounces between 3%-38% when running the scans. Still no channel are picked up :(

Just so I understand would you expect Optus D1 to be with the 22Hz on or off?

I then did a blind scan and got high Quality of 70% at 12.325 and 12.420 - the first time I have seen it go green and then bang they all popped up! I love you!!!! :) I can't tell you how many hours I have sunk into this.

I think you will find the sharp lnb is starting to fail. I recently had the same issue with 3 sharp lnbs. I noticed when the channels scanned in, only on blind scan, they were showing slightly off frequency. A new lnb will solve the problem.

I will order one up. Best to just get one of the same spec's? The DVB-S box I bought came with an Aurora card to watch Aussie channels, I'm not particularly after them but do I want my 22Hz switch on or off to pickup Optus C1 if my sky dish is setup as it should be?

22kHz off should get you the D1 throat, 22kHz on will switch to the second throat which points at C1/D3 (nothing FTA there though).

As dukester says, these Sharp LNBs are failing, and when they do they become temperature dependant, and the LO frequency drifts out a bit.

What frequencies are you seeing the Freeview transponders show up on a blind scan (should be 12483H and 12456H)?

Confirmed, TV One on 12482 H , the others on 12456 seem to be correct though, I think it was just getting in a mess with so many settings and no where to start with a known good as I had no DVB-S kit that I used before.

Now to have another go at SageTV setup and the USB tuner.

That's close enough for a blind scan - LNB is probably working fine - just a setup issue originally...

Thats right Sharp LNB could be dead after about 15 years - changed mine recently although have not watched TV for ages - geeks do not have time to watch TV IMHO

Sattelite Dish alignment is not that simple - as you have to adjust:
- Horison
- Elevation
- Sckew of the LNB - Sharp is good but cheaper versions could have internal antennas bended and require adjustments especially with the C-band
- Distance of the LNB from the focal point of the dish
Then comes the tuner's part of antenna set up:
- LNB frequency e.g. 10.75 Dual Sharp vs Single Sharp 11.3 (on k-band)
- 22Khz - OFF - you do not need ON in NZ anymore I guess
- Multiswitch/DiSeq on/of and #channel if on
Then when you are tuning - it is not only polarity (V/H) and Transponder Frequency it is also
- Modulation
- BER - some transponders will not pick up on auto scan

And also with shared antennas in appartment buildings if someone watching vertical transponder then you have no luck with getting horisontal at the same time - does not work like that.

P.S. - if i hear (doubtful) about anything really really cool from the bird (any bird) - I will probably erect my rusty 90 cm back in the air again, but untill now - youtube rules and 4 dishes collect dust, mold and rust.

If you your LNBF is cabled directly to your receiver the settings should be:

LO 10750
22khz off - (On will activate D3 throat)
DISEqC off
LNBF Single
Polarity either Auto or Horizontal (pref Auto)
LNBF power either ON (other options maybe as per polarity)

freeview TVNZ: 12483 H 22500SR
Kordia:              12456 H 22500SR
Prime                12707 H 22500SR
9 Australia         12381 V 3750SR

The quad outputs often have problems with drifting or sagging. Recommend swapping out. LNBF's quite cheap these days.

Thanks chaps.

Its all working well and I'm finally able to watch the news when I get home. Its the only reason I wanted it really. I'm a big user of sagetv which no longer exists and plex/youtube on chromecast. If there was some sort of NZ news on YouTube I don't think I would ever need a set top box.
