Hi I'm after a TV for Bach with inbuilt dvb-s because current system of seperate remotes for TV + stb is not childproof and rental proof, a Logitech harmony will still fail derp test if a macro gets stuffed up and im not there to fix, so just need one remote switch TV on, watch stuff

So does anyone know if the new Samsung TVs with dvb-s tuners have a strong enough signal compared to a stb?

I just had a quick google and it seems they might be a bit weak I dunno, I don't want drop outs

I'm looking at Samsung h5500 series, the 4500 series also has but bit low quality maybe

LG also has some dvb-s TVs but I think they use IPS panels which suck (low contrast)

Earlier this year I bought the Samsung UA32H5500 because it has the satellite tuner.  In that time I cant fault it as such.  Just when I first turn on the tv there is a second or 2 of pixelation but all good after that and never had any problem even with heavy rain. Been every bit as good as stand alone stb.  I havent regretted it one bit

HTPC Intel Pentium G3258 cpu, Gigabyte H97n-wifi motherboard, , 8GB DDR3 ram, onboard  graphics. Hauppuage HVR 5500 tuner,  Silverstone LC16M case, Windows 10 pro 64 bit using Nextpvr and Kodi

Cool that's TV I'm looking at too

I guess satellite signal strength should be unaffected by where in nz u are? So I should be fine in coromandel
I'm all about natural accurate picture quality with good contrast to bring out realistic daylight effects etc and sammy 5 series are pretty decent, would prefer the Sony w6 or w7 which is slightly better deal but no dvb-s

I love the picture now but when I first bought it and turned it on I thought oh no what have I done.  The colour was horrible.  I cant remember the site but looking at reviews of Samsung 32h5500 and going through all of them I found a link to settings someone had. That brought the colours much more to my liking and it then just required minor adjustments to suit me.  When all set you can apply to all sources or just to that one.  When setting satellite make sure you select Freeview and it will set everything for you with channels etc.  There is also a general satellite where you set everything from scratch which is handy for non freeview channels.

Just searched and found the page but cant work how to paste in here.  google searched samsung h5500 series tv settings.  It came up with reviews and for th 48h5500 but it does apply to 32 inch as well

When I was in the market for a DVB-S set top box I was unable to find a decent one, and eventually gave up.

Based on that I would think that the DVB-S tuner built into these TVs must be at least as good as any set top boxes currently available.
