Hi guys,

I just built a new computer which seems to be working well so far.

I purchased a Hauppauge WinTV-Hvr 2255 to go with it so I could try and run it as a media centre as well and watch record Freeview. I have a sky tv cable where I have set it up which runs sky fine so was planning on using that as there is no uhf aerial nearby. I would like to ditch sky as we don't really use it much.

I have never set one of these tv cards up and don't know all the the tech lingo for it, so please be understanding of my noob questions :) I have also searched and can't find anything on how to set this up to work.

Firstly I tried to scan for channels through the tuner setup menu, I assume I would need to select one of the digital options "digital ATSC" or "digital QAM" but I tried both and picked up nothing.

From my searching I see I might need to change some LNB settings or something. What is LNB and where do I go to change it(eg what menu in wintv if it's in there)?

Same thing with some OSCAR settings what are there and where do I go to change them?

Am I even on the right track or do I need to be setting something else up first?

If this is all posted somewhere please can you point me to the post as I can't find it?

Thanks in advance for the help

ATSC and QAM are US terrestrial and cable standards and not related to DVB-S reception at all.

Ah, it was purchased from the U.S. through my wife's work as I could all the parts get at cost, maybe that's the problem?

Or should I use one of the other options:

Analog TV (Cable/Antenna)
Analog TV via Set Top Box
External Inputs (Composite/s-Video)
Analog FM Radio

Although none of those sound right, so do you think I need to purchase a card from NZ?

Well it won't receive TV in NZ as it's tuners are incompatible with our Digital system, there is no analogue TV any more and it has no satellite tuner.
The video capture and FM will work though.
Also you can't use a satellite dish with a UHF tuner.

Cool thanks for the info. I will need to be a little more careful in future. Well at least all the other parts I got were comparable and i got apt cheap. Havel ordered the on from the link above.

Will it be a case of plug in and tune or will I have to change other settings?

The one in the link has terrestrial and satellite tuners so should autotune OK (provided you are actually in a terrestrial coverage area) but you may need to alter some settings (LNB, etc) in satellite mode.
My 2200 dual terrestrial tuner worked OK during setup. I just plugged in the UHF antenna, did a scan and it found all channels straight away.
