Quick background. Elderly parents needed a new TV last year so since they live downcountry i called their local Warehouse to make sure they had a 32" Veon instock (which they had). I bought it over the phone after the usual credit checks and told them my Dad would collect it... Dad managed to have the thing loaded across the rear seat of the old car and a bit of help to unload it at home. He proceeded to follow all the instructions and installed it, no problems.

They were rapt with it.

Cut to Christmas and i finally visited them from the big smoke. They have been very tolerant and not mentioned that sound on the thing is terrible... ** Not all 'tinnie from tiny speakers but the swamping of vocals by back ground musi**  A quick check and in a movie especially off DTT the background suspense music indeed completely wipes out the sound level of the main action character's voices... I noticed this instantly however the speakers are doing quite well compared to the really bad things in their previous model flatscreen they had....

So i waded through the Menu for all the audio section setups to find out how, if and whether the level of the channels can be altered but all i have found are the standard sound setup options, nothing truly complicated, MOVIE, SPORTS, NEWS etc.... Engaging any of them i couldn't hear much difference on the fairly basic quality internal cabinet speakers. The set should be doing a mixdown of any 5.1 because its a 2 speaker only setup. That would mean the audio would need to on ACC (?) but nowhere in its menus is there any option changes for this.

So, just a quick ask if anyone has heard or experienced this problem or what in the VEON menus and what i need to do to sort it. regards Morris.

*** sorry to have made an edit, just needed to clarify things.

Cheap TV's are not a free lunch.
The key is to add external speakers...
Typically, cheap TV's like Veon's / Konka's / JVC etc have a coax audio output, so you'll need a soundbar or speakers that will plug in.
I'd suggest a soundbar that can learn the TV remote control commands, so they can use one remote to control both of them.

However... you may well be spending as much on the soundbar, as you did on the TV.

Thanks, good input. I will try an experiment with my parent's little stereo 'hifi' unit and patch into it to see if the receiver isn't actually borked and incorrectly sound level processing the audio section of the DTT stream component. On this Veon i was quite surprised by its sound quality from such small speakers in such a small depth of cabinet because in the past small flatscreen TVs at the cheap end had appalling bad fidelity.

There might be something tweakable in the internal service menus. If you can track down how to access it.

Maybe there's someone else who comes here who is in the Waikato using DTT on a VEON TV. Have you nice audio such that the voice isn't being obliterated by the effects music by chance?

The other issue is these sets are sold by the Warehouse. I am looking at my surprise-ometer of the chances of talking to their service support company to see if there's way to get deeper into setting up how the receivers decode audio out of the stream.... I shant hold my breath!
